Yea -- more or less... :)

I'm thinking that if it can use a Fidonet compatible news server, then the
configuration for the sysop/admin would be minimal. He / she wouldn't have
to fuss too much regarding a learning curve for all this old St. Louis
technology (better marketing point for the non-fido world).

As Robert & I were discussing in this thread, there is already a program
someone wrote for this function. It was designed to pull and toss to and
from a Newserver into PHP. But, as Robert pointed out, it has some errors
and it appears as all development on the app has stopped.

It's called "NewsSync" and Robert gave it a try (do you have the URL handy
Robert?), and discovered that it has some errors.

The following is a quote from Robert regarding the application, "It imported
the last 500 messages from FidoNews under one subject. Additionally, it
re-imports messages sent out back into the phpBB database so every sent
message is duped. New posts from the Hub system's JamNNTPd system are being
imported into the initial imported subject instead of starting a new topic
as is expected."

So, taken from that, it has the following problems.

1. Subject line parsing error & possibly a thread issue
(my comment) Probably a simple pointer error ... (best guess)

2. Re-imports messages
    (my comment) no error checking!

Robert -- was it an executable or was it pure PHP code? Hopefully just PHP
code!!!

Warmest regards,
Shannon
