And I didn't believe that the husband had flatly refused to allow any
last rites.  According to the lawyer for the husband, that and various
other details and arrangements have already been determined by judicial
orders to avoid a long string of confrontations.  The parents don't like
any of those arrangements, so they are resisting them.  According to him
(if you want to see the actual text of the orders, good luck; I haven't
seen them) the judge ordered that in accordance with her religion she
would get last rites of the Church.  I have seen no indication that the
husband ever did or ever would try to prevent that, but given the
judicial order he no longer had the POWER to do so.  The judge specified
that she would get last rites at the time the feeding tube was removed,
and again at the time she was declared dead.  Apparently from some of
the news stories the parents sought to have last rites given again, a
few days after the tube was removed.  Of course, that was not allowed.
The order also directed the hospice priest to do it.  The parents
announced they wanted THEIR priest to do it.  The compromise was to have
them both there, administering the wine together.
