Somebody was wrong.  While it is true that no matter how sharp you are going
into open heart surgery, you have a bit off the fastball when you come out
of it.  That was a comment by a heart surgeon and to one degree or another
it is a true statement.  It has to do with the fact that the heart-lung
machine compresses the platlets and allows cholesterol particles to pass
and these things negatively impact oxygen exchange in the brain, or
at least that has been the thinking on it.  It is not permanent, however.

There is no "normal" amount of time John but, if you stop doing the things
that got you in trouble initially and get yourself into a good cardiac rehab
program, it is not unusual to have the bypass grafts remain stenosis free 
for 20 years or more.

True, I am 7 years out from the first and 5 years out from the second.

I "beat the odds" when I had my heart attack 10 weeks before my first
surgery John, as I had a 100% block in what is commonly called 
"The Widowmaker" or one of them at least, and the block was less than 
two inches out from the aortic root before any of the branches. It 
should have shut down the right side of my heart which would have 
stopped blood flow to the lungs, but thanks to my LCX branch supporting a
significantly greater posterior area on my heart than is the norm, it didn't.

Not "borrowed time" John but each day is indeed  a gift and I have done 
what was required in the way of lifestyle change and rehab in order
to have many more such "gifts" to come.

Not at all, I merely figure the Lord needed for me to act like a 
republican so that you can show yourselves to be hypocrites in your 
complaints about my being unfair when I conduct myself exactly as you 
all have done in the past and continue to do to this day.
