I just love the way all you guys are running around wringing your hands,
bemoaning the nomination of Miers. Maybe a little perspective would be good
here, you think?

There is no rule that a SC justice has to have been a judge. There are plenty
of judges who haven't the sense of a road-killed rat, never mind passing
judgement on their fellow citizens. And how many liberal judges have made
rulings that literally stand the Constitution on its head?

Bush says she won't legislate from the bench, and that she's a strict
constructionist. I have no reason to doubt him on that. As far as her
personal opinions go, I couldn't care less - provided she leaves them at the
door when she takes the bench. A long paper trail as some nominees have had in
the past is no guarantee that that person will follow that same path. I say
she should have the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

Finally, she was instrumental in helping Bush pick John Roberts, who is being
called the best judicial candidate ever to come up for confirmation. That has
to count for something.

As for the Democrats "liking" her, what else are they to say? Don't expect
that attitude to hold. Their true nature will come out before its all over.
