Ärende: "Wal-Mart" bill
=======================
Hello John,

>LL>Liberals want fiscal sanity, with fair taxation for everyone.

[..]

>LL>Better pay, especially with benefits, will attract good workers.
>LL>Lousy pay, with no benefits, will attract the dumb and dumber.

[..]

>LL>The economy is for the person. Not the other way around. By paying
>LL>a living wage, with inclusion of health benefits, companies would make
>LL>more profits. Not less. After all, with healthy employees who show
>LL>up for work on time, there is more production and less turnover.

JH>You're a damn fool. A high minimum wage has all but eliminated the entry le
JH>jobs where teenagers traditionally earned their wings in the adult world of
JH>working for a living. They don't have the discipline one needs to hold down
JH>job, showing up when they feel like it - or not at all - but expecting a
JH>paycheck on payday as if they had. They are functionally illiterate, so the
JH>can't read, write, or do basic math adequately enough to do the job right.
JH>do you think all the cash registers in fast food joints have picture icons o
JH>the keys instead of normal numbers and letters?

Congratulations. You have just called over 7.3 million Americans
"functionally illiteralte" and not even worthy to be called adults.
Furthermore, you have aligned yourself with a mere 6 percent of
the population which opposes an increase of the minimum wage.

Adjusted for inflation, the minimum wage should be at least $7.50
per hour. And that is not including the costs of health benefits.

Today, the minimum wage is worth only 32 percent of the average
hourly wage in America. Not only that, but a full-time employee
earning the minimum wage does not even meet the poverty level!

It is no small wonder that, according to a recent poll by the Pew
Research Center, that 82 percent of the American people support an
increase of the minimum wage as an important priority. Which goes
to show you how popular your scumbag of a president is, with the
present minimum wage remaining what it has been for the past
eight years. And you wonder why Bush's approval rating on the
economy is a mere 39 percent...

JH>Owners of fast food businesses are forced to hire two or three times as many
JH>people as they need because they can't rely on them to show up when they are
JH>scheduled to, so they need a pool to draw on. The turnover rate in such
JH>businesses is horrific. For every dozen they hire, maybe one or two will la
JH>six months. The rest will either just quit showing up or get fired for thef
JH>or some other inappropriate behavior.

Owners of fast food businesses have no problem making a nice hefty
profit with employees earning significantly more than the minimum wage.
In fact, those employers have better, more dependable employees, and a
low turnover rate. It is those employers who refuse to pay employees
more than the minimum wage who are having problems.

JH>I've got a friend who is a manager at a Burger King. He has to work about 60
JH>hours a week between three stores because of the teens and young adults who
JH>don't show up when they are supposed to. His wife divorced him because he w
JH>always getting called into work when somebody didn't show up for the late
JH>shift, or on a Saturday or Sunday.
JH>But he can't afford to cut back because he's got two kids in college, and th
JH>30K a year he makes is spread pretty thin.

Your friend is not a very good manager. Otherwise, he would not have
to work his butt off. Hiring quality personnel is important, but no
manager is going to be able to do that by offering slave wages. Of
course, it may not be the manager's fault, given that it is the owner
who hires the manager. Then again, like some NFL owners, it could be
the coach/manager. Or the owner himself. Which is why the Saints have
only managed to win one playoff game in the entire history of their
existence.

JH>And one last thing. If you don't enjoy paying $2.49 for a burger that cost
JH>$1.00 ten years ago, you can blame that on minimum wage also. In order to
JH>compensate for the extra overhead in wages and training expense, in addition
JH>normal inflation, they had to raise the prices of the product to cover cost.

Cost is relative. If gas costs a nickel a gallon and one does not
have a nickel to buy the gas, what difference does it make how much
gas costs? On the other hand, if gas costs five bucks a gallon and
people have well-paying jobs, most people can afford to buy all the
gas they want.

JH>So, your living wage is bullshit. Try talking to the people who actually wo
JH>for a living and have to deal with the crap you liberals force down our
JH>throats. Not that you will of course, you're too f*cking busy telling us ho
JH>to live.

If you would like to read more about the minimum wage, and learn the
real facts, visit this url -

There are lots of articles on that site. Enjoy.
