Consider it clarified.  I haven't gone fishing in a 
very long time but we do keep a half-dozen or so 
rods, etc. in the Gazeebo on the lake. A few 
months back we had company from Sao Paulo and they 
took advantage of the lake.  While they caught a 
slew of fish, they tossed them back.

Which is probably the reason that floridafisheries.com 
includes "striped bass hybrid" as one of the common 
names, eh?

We have seen those as well when we go out on the 
gazeebo to feed the fish & turtles.

I have been all over that website trying to find a 
clue as to the species of the fish in question.

JH> Based on the location of Crowell Lake, it is

It's clear enough to see about 3-5' down near the 
shore ( the gazeebo is about 5-6' out over the lake). 
As for out in the middle, according to one of my 
neighbors, Crowell likely is artesian fed because 
he said while out on the lake his depth finder 
recorded something over 200' in a small area. 

Another reason for being artesian fed, is that there 
doesn't seem to be any creeks, etc. as a source and, 
during the dry period we've been experiencing, unlike 
many other nearby lakes, the water level hasn't 
seemed to have dropped.

I remember, on my first visit to Florida in 1953, the 
extremely clear water near Ocala at the Silver Springs 
(if I recall correctly), the place that had the glass 
bottomed boats.

I will try to get some pictures and I will be happy 
to let you know, John.  However given your suggestion 
I would not be surprised if it turns out to be in 
the Bluegill family.

What's not to love?  ;)

After spending over 23 years in Oklahoma (Tulsa and 
environs), the last 2 years have been fantastic.

Oh yes.  We do enjoy the fireworks of SeaWorld from 
the lanai in the evening...  as the crow flies it's 
about 3 miles east of us.  We also hear (but not see, 
generally) the fireworks from Disney to the west.
