It's amazing how the left is nearly demanding that the right spend the next
century or so whining about this election.  It serves as a learning
experience and for the next two years those of us at the grass roots will
just have to work on the party's leaders to come back to reality.

We must dig into our files and read once again why we are what we are.  A
reminder of what gets lost when the elected try to please the extremes.

I had a friendly call this morning from Tom Latham, a friend and my
congressman.  He wanted to personally thank me for the work that I did for
his re-election drive, the ad I did for him and the work that all of us in
Madison County did for him and the party.

I happened to be driving it to Winterset and Tom asked what I was doing.
I told him that when the politicans finish up on election night it is us
foot soldiers that return the next day to clean up the campaign
headquarters.  For us it's a labor of love.  

For my friends and myself election 2006 was a small disappointment.  Of the
11 partisan seats up for grabs in this election we won 8.  Not a bad record
given the conditions.  We placed 2 on the county board of supervisors for
the first time in 20 years. 

One of the supervisors elected is the first woman elected to supervisor in
the county's history.  She not only won the largest number of votes (vote
for 2 of 5), she received votes from 51% of the ballots cast.  

The disappointments were caused by forces outside of our county and
control.   We will now have to share some of our knowledge and experiences
with our neighboring counties.  Looking toward to tomorrows is the by word
of community.  Yesterday is history that we can't undo.  We learn and live
on.
