I can't say anything about the Army as I don't have children, but you do have
to have wills and powers of attorney made up as soon as you get into the
service and if you don't, they will help you make them before you get deployed.

That's one of the good bennies that I miss: a competent legal team (JAG). I
don't know what other service (I'm assuming Army) Janis was referring to, but
it quite possibly could have been the Army.

Yes, the service can't babysit people's poor decisions or they can't help
people that don't tell them the situation beforehand so the JAG can help
prevent a tragedy from happening. All the soldier had to do was to tell her
commanding officer and if he wouldn't listen, she has the right to walk into
JAG and speak to a lawyer, who DOES have the legal right to put a "stop order"
in until the situation can be straightened out. I know-I had to do it myself
due to marital problems before moving to my first duty station.

People who have no experience with the military cannot truly understand the
thinking and the logic that may seem crooked that goes with it. Being
third-generation military, yeah, I know it pretty well and after serving eight
years, I know it only too well. Stan and everyone else who served in here
would agree with me on that...wait, then they'd all be my cronies, right?
Well, damn it, let them. I'm proud I served my country and I am sure they are
that they did too.

Like I said, with her comments of late, I sincerely hope that she doesn't have
any relations in the military because they'd be really ashamed of her comments
concerning the war funding bill. You know, just because they might be doing
something that she doesn't like doesn't mean that their families have to pay
the consequences of a bunch of political wingnuts pooh-poohing money to pay the
very people that they would order to protect their pompous asses if anything
were to threaten them.

Until people like her experience the military directly, all they can do is talk
out their asses, which is something nearly all liberals do.

MG> BTW; to those of you who have served thank you from the bottom of
MG> my heart for serving the country, you are such special people and I
MG> hope you've had a nice memorial day.

Thank you. I worked Memorial Day from midnight to 8 AM and made doubletime
doing it, sitting on my butt, sleeping (really, it was so quiet at work...I got
bored and napped for about an hour or so). Then I got up and watched a
Memorial Day observance at the national cemetary in Marietta (Georgia - I'd
have gone, but the smoke from the forest fires south of us rolled up here and
it was choking me to go outside).

I also called my father and grandfather (both veterans), then I wished I could
go see my great-grandfather (a veteran) at his gravesite in California also.

Later,
Sean
