The peak of the American economy occurred during the Johnson
administration.  Even those who had jobs that paid minimum wage
could make ends meet.  But not in today's world, where one needs
to earn at least twice the present minimum wage in order survive.

Johnson's War On Poverty enabled millions of Americans to lead full and
productive lives.  Today, with welfare reform, more and more Americans
are finding themselves without jobs, without medical insurance, without
hope.

What's wrong?  White folks can't stand competetion?  Is that why
conservatives are so dead-set against affirmative action?  Liberals
love competition.  Affirmative action programs allow everybody to
compete - on a level playing field.  The only folks who hate such
programs are racists.  White racists.  After all, having to compete
only against white folks gives them a better chance of landing a
job.  Competing against black folks and yellow folks and brown
folks and red folks would just be too demanding.
