I think *that* was the biggest blunder Kerry made, running on his 
Vietnam war record.  The Vietnam war was a very devisive event 
and I think people, in general, regardless of whether they were 
for or against that war, would rather forget the whole thing.  
Kerry resurrected it, with its many unpleasant memories.  That 
gave a most undesirable background to what he decided to say 
about his activities there ... 

Of course the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were also most 
impressive -- in their retention of their resentment of Kerry's 
testimony in Congress after leaving the military.  It took a 
lot to sustain such bitterness for three decades and that hurt 
Kerry, perhaps fatally.

... A new name for Political Correctness:  Euphemasia.
