James has mellowed a lot since he hooked up with Mary Matelin, especially after
she almost left him.

That's because Carville isn't one of the "inner circle" of the leftist
illuminati.  He is nothing but an attack dog that they let loose from time to
time.  Because of his marriage to a committed Republican campaign advisor, he
will never be completely trusted by the inner circle.  So, they aren't going to
listen to him now when he's giving them good advice.

Personally, I don't think his heart is in it anymore, anyway.  If you compare
how he is today with how he was back in 89 and 90, he's a completely different
person.  Back then, he was positively crazed - burning with fire of liberal
idealism.  Over the last fifteen years he has watched the Democrats screw the
pooch too many times, and you can tell his almost religious fervor just isn't
there anymore.  I heard Mary Matelin in an interview say something that didn't
make a lot of sense at the time, but in retrospect says a lot.  When they were
having problems, she apparently gave him an ultimatum to clean up his act
politically.  Now, you can hear the cynicism in his voice whenever he starts
talking the talk.
