Ärende: Justice for terrorists?

 There are something like 380 prisoners at Gitmo. Out of that
 number a grand total of two have been charged with crimes. One
 was a chauffer for OBL. The other was accused of killing an
 American soldier in Afghanistan.

 They were brought up on charges under a law the Bush
 administration managed to get a republican controlled congress
 to enact last year. Before they got booted out of power.

 At the time there were protests that the military tribunals
 would be inherently unfair. That they were preferred because
 they would not give the accused a fair trial.

 I had doubts about those claims. Back during the Vietnam era
 military personell who came up for trial were advised by some of
 the anti-military forces that they had a right to a civilian
 trial. It turned out the military courts were more likely to
 find the accused not guilty than the civilians. They are less
 subject to political pressure, not more, and more likely to
 adhere to the law. Military tend to be that way.

 The military judges dismissed the cases. Even under a law Bush
 and the Congress crafted specifically to allow those prisoners
 to stand trial the judges found they could not proceed with the
 trials.

 The administration blew it once again.
