Ärende: More neo-con tactics
============================

THat's as I recall it.

BIg mistake as far as I'm concerned. ONe reason I've always been against the
no knock raid with a bunch of heavily armed individuals. SEe TIm's comment
below.

Amen brother! That's what's happened in many local swat type raids where theyh
entered the wrong home. Some old guy sleeping peacefully next to his lady love
who knows nothing about dealing coke or whatever finds some heavily armed
people entering his home and pulls his trusty 9 mm from under the mattress and
the shooting starts.

ONe night when I lived in NEw ORleans I had been walking the dog and while
walking went some distance with a local denizen that I figure was probably
under the eye of the local gendarmes.
Later on I was outside just checkingon our van and osme other things. THIs cop
approached me, wearing plainclothes. NExt thing I know I"M up against the fence
and this dude's patting my body down. HE kept telling me to stand still and I
was a bit noncompliant. I told him if he thought I was going to stand there
and let myself get robbed he was sadly mistaken. Neeedless to say apartment
complex manager spied this going on out her window and told stupid cop he was
dealing with a blind man who didn't see sheidl or anything else. YOu can come
in politely and state your business, or you can get shot at if you enter my
home armed./ THat's the way the game goes. ON the street, if you're a
legitimate law enforcement personage you best identify yourself. THis pretend
gestapo bs just gets good law enforcement people and civilians hurt or killed
needlessly. THe feds weren't thinking and people needlessly died in WAco. THe
locals weren't thinking in south MIssissippi when they entered a man's house
because they got an address wrong. THe man saw armed intruders entering his
home without even a knock first and resisted with a firearm. A cop needlessly
died that night.

There are valid reasons our constitution says what it says about unlawful
search and seizure, and there are reasons that law enforcement personnel should
get and produce warrants, or at least have them available. DOing it right saves
lives, both of the officer sworn to protect the public and of the citizens who
may be doing nothing wrong. That's part of the old "rule of law not men" thing.

TR> Had they walked up to the door `with' the warrant, knocked and
TR> displayed the warrant, Koresh might just have let them in and there
TR> wouldn't have been any long running circus in Waco that ended in a
TR> fiery shootout and many deaths.

And had the swat team in MIssissippi beat on the door until the man answered,
he'd still be finishing his college education, his kids would have a father in
their lives, and that cop would still be alive today. HE might have even been
able to point them to the address they wanted, but the old swat team trick
looks cooler for the cameras <hrrrumph>.

AS a friend's tagline says:

WHO will protect the public when the police break the law?"

RW>IIRc. RAndy WEaver ended up working in a factory in WAterloo IOwa. IIRC
RW>also he was acquitted. Seems the feds did fire the first shots in that
RW>one.

TR> That was another one that was badly mishandled by federal LEO's.
TR> They killed Weaver's son, his wife, and the whole thing could have
TR> been avoided by just using some common sense.

INdeed. WEaver knew he was under scrutiny. WEaver has stated publicly on more
than one occasion had they not come at him with the commando tactics he would
have never shown armed resistance.

TR> Many of the federal LEO names that figured in the one case, also
TR> popped up in the other case.

INdeed, they've even become examples to all the locals who want to operate in
the same manner.

TR> Most, if not all, of the incompetent LEO's who were involved in the
TR> cases were `not' really fired at all.

OF course not, because certain political types have convinced, or are working
to convince the public that these tactics are legitimate when used by law
enforcement at all levels. It may be showy and quite dramatic to read about
even if the cameras aren't The citizens need to wake up and tell their elected
officials that this modus operandi by law enforcement is unacceptable in a
society that lives by the rule of law. DOesn't matter whether the A.G. is named
REno or Gonzales, or whether the official that ordered it is JOe local police
chief. IT's the wrong way to operate.

Regards,
           Richard
