Ärende: tax cuts don't pay
==========================
I am very disappointed that you would buy into this line of
equine manure. Surely you realize not a bit of that man's
 reasoning is valid.

Having considered it I figure he thinks federal income taxes are
the only taxes there are. The Stat AB shows the total federal
revenue is about $1.8 trillion. The federal income tax is about
$740 bill. That means about 58% of the federal revenue comes
from other sources. This is for 2003. The federal budget history
files show the total govt revenue, state, local and federal to
be about $2.85 trillion. That leaves about 74% of all govt
revenues from sources other than the federal income taxes. That
does throw he figures off just a bit.

GP> Here's another view, with supporting calculations & logic:

No supporting calculations, just assertions. Without sources
 that is all they are.

 The logic is completely fraudulent.

GP> Here is an apt representation of the US tax code.

There is a completely fraudulent representation of the US tax code.

GP> While you're watching the political commercials and
GP> listening to the politicians spin their web around
GP> unsuspecting and misinformed people . . a "Reality" lesson
 GP> in economics.

 An unreality lesson in economics.

Just where is he getting his numbers?

GP> Top 1% earn 21% of all income pay 37-1/2% of all taxes
GP> Top 5% earn 35% of all income pay 56-1/2% of all taxes
GP> Top 10% earn 46% of all income pay 67% of all taxes
GP> Top 25% pay 84% of all taxes

According to the Dept of Labor, the top 20% pay about 50% of all
taxes, and earn about 50% of all income.

GP> Top 50% pay 96-1/2% of all taxes
GP> Bottom 50% pay 3-1/2% of all taxes

The fact that the top 20% pay 50% of taxes, leaves the remaining
80% with 50% of income and 50% of taxes. Sounds fair to me.

GP> Just in case you are not completely clear on this issue, we
GP> hope the following will help:

GP> Tax Cuts - A Simple Lesson In Economics

 A fraudulent lesson in economics.

GP> This is how the cookie crumbles. Please read it carefully.

GP> Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand.
GP> Suppose that every day, ten people go out for dinner. The
GP> bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the
GP> way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

GP> The first four people (the poorest) would pay nothing.

Anyone who believes the poorest 40% pay no taxes also believe in
elfs and fairies and long distance calls home for ET.

Anyone who spends money pays taxes, it's that simple.

Those who earn money pay even more.

GP> The fifth would pay $1.
GP> The sixth would pay $3.
 GP> The seventh $7.
 GP> The eighth $12.
 GP> The ninth $18.
GP> The tenth person (the richest) would pay $59.

 ...

GP> curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said,
GP> "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20."

Which has nothing to do with tax cuts. The Bush tax cuts were to
reward his supporters, nothing more. The richest are the best at
 dodging taxes, not good customers.

 ...

GP> first four people were unaffected. They would still eat for
 GP> free.

The poorest four do not eat for free.

 ...

GP> "That's true!!" shouted the seventh person. "Why should he
GP> get $10 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the
 GP> breaks!"

 That part is true.

 ...

GP> The nine people surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

Actually, the tenth walked all over the other nine.

GP> The next night the tenth person didn't show up for dinner,
GP> so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came
GP> time to pay the bill, they discovered something important.
GP> They didn't have enough money between all of them for even
 GP> half of the bill!

Since the nine actually paid everything, including the money
that the 10th used to pay his part, they could just not give
number 10 anything and have what they need to pay the bill.

GP> And that, boys and girls, journalists and college
GP> professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay
GP> the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax
GP> reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being
GP> wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore.
GP> There are lots of good restaurants in Europe and the
 GP> Caribbean.

No, there really are not. In Europe the tax systems are even
tighter than they are here. In the Carribean there may be a lot
of good restaurants, but without the source of wealth they need
 to be the top 1%.

They pay more because they benefit more. Simple enough. What are
they going to benefit, where are they going to make that wealth,
in any other country? Do you really think China is just waiting
for some itinerant American to show up to get rich? Do you think
Europe doesn't have enough rich people? As long as their source
of wealth is in this country, we have access to tax it. They do
their business here, they earn their profit here, let them pay
 their taxes here.
