true, it comes down to personal motivation, then having employment that
provides for an actual living.

<snip>.

<Rotflmao!!!> THis old curmudgeon became a libertarian when he figured out
that even with the best intentions human greed woudl always be a factor, and
the touchie feelie types could be too easily manipulated by those who wanted
control for their own reasons. COrporate welfare doesn't "trickle down" to the
masses as folks like REagan said it should.

BK> But... but... isn't that the way it's *supposed* to be?

TO some extent yes. BUt still, people must have the ability to srvive,
otherwise work has no meaning. spending six hours a day for or five days a
week at work and still needing to beg for medical assistance or food aid
doesn't make for productive employees.

RW> some of the welfare mothers we rented to when my lady and I

BK> Like I said, there was something they could do. Cleaning hotel
BK> rooms is not dishonorable work.

True enough, but often these jobs don't pay a living wage these days. Though
one can tip the maid at the hotel few do. Most of our tenants were the "working
poor" and many worked two or more jobs. then to keep their residence they had
to do the paperwork shuffle once a year. DOccument this, doccument that, at
least an hour of filling out forms and making sure their paperwork they had to
show was in order. THe few actual welfare mothers we had for the most part had
no motivation to acquire any training. One for example complained of a bad
back, so bad she couldn't walk four blocks down the street to put the money
order her boyfriend gave her for the rent in our night deposit box, but she
could make more babies. she could also go to Catholic charities and other
organizations begging for this, begging for that.

Regards,
           Richard
