Ärende: The Black Experience
============================
Hi Bob,

Bob Ackley wrote in a message to Richard Webb:

YEp, true, and apropos.

WIth cable systems and broadband over powerline however these systems generate
rf. COnsider cable channel 14 for example. It's frequency band is 121 mhz,
right smack dab in the middle of the aircraft vhf band. THe fcc, and faa have a
real strong interest in ensuring that the cable system is engineered so as not
to leak rf out, or allow rf in. iF it's engineered to do one effectively it
will accomplish the other. SAme sort of thing happens with bpl as noted above.
CLosed loop systems such as cable TV borrow rf spectrum, and are supposed to be
"closed loops" and if not, then the fcc and the public has a strong interest in
making them clean up their act.

YEars ago I was running a packet radio station which was strategically in a
good spot to handle forwarding from the packet backbone in eastern Iowa to a
bbs in the far southeastern corner of the state. THat meant my packet system
was rather busy.

Dad meanwhile was complaining that I just trashed channel 18 on his cable,
center frequency 145.25 mhz. I was operating on 145.01 mhz. I told him we'd
lcean up his house, make sure all of the extensions he'd done to provide cable
to every room in the house were done with high quality cable, properly
terminated ends, etc. THen he could raise hell with the cable company.

Btw I could find carriers for the cable company in the aircraft band, and
demonstrated how this worked for dad. THe pols in this case wouldn't know how
to even begin to promulgate rules to give their wishes some substance. Hence
some people with engineering backgrounds have to do it. Only trouble is, these
folks are often overruled by different political crooks whose palms are greased
by those they're supposed to regulate.

Hence, the public that's supposed to win loses.

Regards,
           Richard
