Ärende: Bo!!!

AH> Hi again, James! Recently you wrote in a message to All:

OK, Ardith. Even I am noticing a few dupes above your average. (READ:
 One in how many months?)

Now, I *know* you like poking me with a stick, and quite frankly, I'm
troubled that it's so ticklish, but sheesh... <G>

JB> I just scared the bejeabers outa a kid this holloween.
JB> 119 kids this year. An old next-door counted 175 one
JB> year, and dad tells me we hit over 200 once, but I've
JB> caught him telling half truths on every topic, *except*
 JB> fishing.

AH> Good grief! We typically get 20 or 30.... :-)

Twenty, or Thirty fish on a stick, or kids at your door? <G+D>

Ya, we get quite an abundance here. If there is less than a hundred,
there is usually a two-foot dump of snow on the ground, or a natural
disaster to peg the blame on, and *we* get the sugar rush.

Dad has developed quite a reputation however, of passing out instant
oatmeal later in the night. (Getting a sweet-tooth, recalling the lack
of leftovers.) I tossed a few bundles over the balcony, (He lives next
to me in a side-by-side duplex, in case new readers are lurking.) and
we BOTH ran out. I had over two hundred pieces, and dad was over a
hundred, but by eight pm, I had to stop eating the Arrow bars, and
hung my head when the "Nice light snack"s were being allocated to the
cause.

If the car wasn't in the shop, I'd likely make an excuse to visit the
Lebanese corner store for some Baklava.

AH> Uh-huh. Despite what you may be hearing on the
 AH> radio & TV these days, it's "Hallowe-en" or "Hallowe'en" or
AH> "Halloween" as in "All Hallows' Eve". It's not "hollow"
 AH> like a Jack-o'-lantern. I couldn't let that pass, but I'll
AH> forgive you because you're catching up & because you posted
AH> on Guy Fawkes' Day.... :-))

Guy Who? <G>

No, it's "Hollow" here, as in: This pit in my stomach was not
satisfied by the hollow basket after the abyss of hungry kids depleted
the stockpile.

Now that you mention, I do recall hearing the "Hallows" thing when
being a Wikan was the popular term to use after Vegan was just not as
taboo as it used to be.

JB> more of a bombastic opinion in a few.

 AH> I'm looking forward to it.... :-) :-) :-)

Oh... Be careful what you wish for. Don't you know *ANYTHING?*
<Busting a gut>

 JB> Ardith:

JB> And you thought you were going to get dumped that easy?
JB> Maybe you're *not* as bright as I expected. O-8*

AH> When I didn't see you in any of your usual haunts, I guessed
AH> that your Fido machine had given up the ghost or somebody got
AH> spooked & dragged you off to the hospital. Neither would
AH> be particularly unusual around here.... ;-)

Ow... I resemble that remark!

(READ: "Where IS that brick wall? These wooden ones are no challenge
to bust through.)

JB> Send a search party if I go MIA for another six months.

AH> Noted. If there is a next time, I'll ask your
 AH> SysOp about it.... :-)

He'll likely be as perplexed as I am why I can't get to the
BBS. Server issues aside.

Turns out the major obstacle was floor space this time. This computer
resides in a small camera case, and it was ready for a job, and near
the door. On its way to being utilized again, I first needed to extend
a tables legs onto a floor, and move that table to where the floor
first availed itself, then dig out a phone cable that would reach an
outlet, then... ... ...

My time in front of a computer is often mostly spent plugging, and
unplugging things, running fdisk once the I/Os seem to work, or trying
to burn bootable Linux CDs... ... ...

Pictures at eleven. <Not really, but if I had an easy way to expose
them. I'd be able to burn an emulsion, or click a CCD image, then
scan or load it onto a HD, where it would likely first have to run
through a couple of NICS and a crossover cable, then upload it to the
BBS, and f'attach it... ... ... >

Gee, I detect a theme here!
