===============================
Sequence - Shmequence!

You still have about half a dozen replies about to volley your way. You can't
shake me *that* easily.

Since I updated you last, I purchased 425^2' of 3/4" prefinished oak flooring,
for about 60% retail. Then, returning from my favourite auction house, I found
my car crammed with a bundle of red oak banister rails, trim, and a seven ft.
piece of step <term?> molding, that resembles more a solid 3x10 quarter sawn
chunk of oak, than any other piece of decorative or structural member than I
have ever seen.

I know woodwork likely isn't your forte, but in care we have some lurkers...

Besides, on the 'puter front, I found two in the trash I just disassembled, and
pulled a USB DVD-RW, 'external' drive apart, so I now have an IDE DVD-RW
'internal' drive, plus a USB brain and power supply for a project box.

What gave me the confidence to pull that unit apart, was a Dayteck 'external'
USB mini drive, that I used to swap the HD with the 'portable' 'puter I am
typing on now with. The 'puter was supposed to only make sense of 20G, (Some
clap-trap about 1024 cylinder limit dances through my vast expanse of a
noggin'.) but the drive is 30G, and Linux couldn't really care less.

Gee, it smells of testosterone 'round here. Hold on, that might be my stinky
pits. <L l/a maniac>

On or about 12-12-05 10:02, Ardith Hinton did engage James Bradley

 JB> I once saw a dissertation about "She's Leaving" by a
JB> scholar, and he concluded by, "Who would have logically
JB> tried that? Not me." Very crafty boys, the lot of them.

AH> Yes, not everyone wants a steady diet of songs about failed
AH> romances and teenage infatuations... or if they do, many
AH> outgrow it. At the time, this song struck a responsive
AH> chord with older adults as well. And now the Beatles are
AH> enjoying a renewed popularity with their children &
 AH> grandchildren.... :-)

I don't know if we should go too far here with the music critique, as there are
perfect echoes without traffic on the subject. I just wonder if the pendulum
has swung as far to the bazaar as Elvis the Pelvis could turn over in his grave
with, but maybe the gloss-pop, safe 'acrobatic' vocal trend is the opposing end
of the same pendulum? Safe lyrics, comfortable image even if it is provocative,
nude bodies is something that doesn't present that much a challenge these
days... ... ...

JB> Me, always a Walrus guy. That should indicate the bent?

AH> I think so. Lennon must have written the lyrics. They
AH> remind me of his book A SPANIARD IN THE WORKS... he seems to be
AH> playing with words. What I like about the examples I
AH> mentioned is that they're playing with the sounds of
AH> instruments one would not expect to hear in twentieth
AH> century rock music. And they tell a story or paint a
AH> picture so simply that even I can get it.... ;-)

And in my estimation, the closest the band ever came to Haiku. No, not
literally of course, but the vagueness was something that caught my wayward
imagination.

AH> The Walrus's imagery is more complex... but
AH> either way I see someone who would probably notice, with a
AH> mixture of detached amusement & frustration, how the folks
AH> in the fast lane scurry around with a coffee cup in one
AH> hand & a cell phone in the other or slavishly follow the
AH> whims of a fashion designer in SomePlace Else. So do I.
AH> My own inclination would be to say the banker never wears a
AH> mac (or whatever) and play with with timbres & harmonies,
 AH> though. :-)

Macintosh from what I recall. Either it was a nick-name for an 'Slicker' or a
process for making an approximation from plastic. It's a British thing, none
the less. And no, a banker would never be found DEAD in one. Probably a snub at
the banker, as it turns out to be one of the most effective garments ever.

JB> Only now, am I truly appreciating George's composition,
JB> and skill. Ringo... Well, he was so off the wall, the
JB> record company didn't trust him to carry the early
JB> recordings. Once he started to out play the "pro" in
JB> the imagination department, did they push to record
 JB> Ringo. Viva la trouble-makers!

AH> Years ago, some of the later stuff was a little
AH> too off the wall for me. Like you, though, I think I might
AH> understand it better now.... :-)

I could never argue the Sgt. Pepper concept, as it created the concept. For me,
clinical self indulgence has never exceeded Rush. Like I say, if you want to
move this en-mass to another echo???

AH> While you're busy with other stuff?? ;-)

JB> You *had* to mention the "S" word, didn't you? I need to
JB> clean up the disassembled couch from the front yard before
JB> the kiddies start running around on their annual sugar rush.

AH> Yeah, there's always something... (sigh).

AH> I think Nora learned a good lesson on this trip too. She
AH> got stuck in the reeds at one point. Dallas & I both refused
AH> to tow her out. And as we'd suspected, she could solve the
AH> problem herself with a bit of verbal instruction.... :-))

JB> Comes readily to mind, the day I was to play in the new
JB> snowbank out in the front yard. After mom turns blue with,
 JB> "But it's cold. You'll get stuck."

AH> Nora had a teacher in toddler group who often said things
AH> like "Don't do that... you'll fall!" Drove me nuts. I'd think

... But keep this here. <-;

AH> "Maybe she will & maybe she won't. So what?? She's in a
AH> carefully managed environment where she won't get hurt too
AH> badly." This woman died of cancer a few years later, and I
AH> can't help wondering how much her fatalistic attitude had
AH> to do with the outcome. Because Nora remained in the group
AH> for some time after her diagnosis of leukemia, there was
AH> readily available evidence that people can & do survive
 AH> such diseases. :-/

Q: How many existentialists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: It has to *want* to change.

JB> Sure enough, I found the deepest drift I could waddle up to,
JB> and sink myself in to my hips. "MOM!?!"

JB> She pulled me out once, but the second time, I was on my own.

JB> There *are* benefits to growing up with a pro in the house!

 AH> Uh-huh. Speaking as a mother & a teacher, I
AH> imagine she was keeping one eye peeled to make sure you got
AH> yourself out the second time too.... :-))

The way mom tells it today, is she had to leave the kitchen to resist the
temptation, but she checked up on me in about twenty minutes. I was a
loud-mouth kid too, so she likely had to do something on the other side of the
house to get away from my incessant wailes. <L> The neighbour across the street
didn't exist at the time, but my God-Father lived next to us. If they were
home, I'm sure the buzz around town would haver been what a terrible mother I
had. <LOL>
