Ärende: A Different Drummer... 3B.
=====================================
Hi again, James! This is a continuation of my previous message to you:

JB> I've made a conscious effort to become more "A", but
JB> my mistake was to do so, while firmly denying I was
JB> in pain. Now that I know what's what, I'm *still*
JB> running myself raged. (I know, you expected no less
JB> from me. B-)

Well... like the majority of folks I find really interesting, you're
not easily categorized! You work very hard at some physical task, even though
you're in pain, and then you sleep for 24 hours. That's what I'd expect an SP
to do. SJ's may work hard as well... but they generally adhere to a much more
conventional schedule ("early to bed, early to rise" and whatnot). As long as
you're willing & able to give your body the rest it needs after working for an
extended period I'm not concerned about when or how you do that. You may have
to go beyond your comfort level in order to make progress at times. If you're
engaged in something you love doing & find it makes the pain more bearable, if
your physical condition seems to be improving as a result, and/or if you enjoy
the fruits of your labours, I think that's good. But if you make unreasonable
demands on yourself because other people expect you to be an "overachiever" or
because you feel compelled to match their record, that's not so good. You may
find, when you take a close look at what you're doing & why, that the benefits
outweigh the risks... or you may not. Either way, it's your decision.... :-)

JB> I was getting the impression that a sensory invoked
JB> person would only be a subset of a judgment, not either.
JB> Now, I take it this is not the case?

The "S" person is one who receives input mainly from the five senses
... the "intuitive" person takes various factors into account. The difference
between "judgement" and "perception" is another important aspect of reasoning.
This aspect operates both in "S" people and in "N" (intuitive) people.... :-)

AH> Perhaps the "cowboy" lacked a sense of responsibility,
AH> which is most often associated with "J" people.

I'm referring to the one who left his friend for dead, BTW. You may
have used the same term for both (I think). It sounds as if he made little or
no attempt to find out for sure that his friend was beyond help before leaving
... and hadn't considered whether he should remain with his friend, and try to
attract attention from passers-by, or go with due haste to an alternative spot
where he might reasonably expect to find other people who could be called upon
for assistance. I understand that some SP's may say to themselves (in effect)
"You're no fun any more!" and abandon relationships without a backward glance,
but I'd like to think most would try to help an injured hiking companion. :-)

JB> See, my intuition is telling me to think the opposite.
JB> This one, is so ingrained that a "judge" is one pinnacle
JB> of a person, beyond reproach.

Is it your intuition, or is it something you've been taught? My own
intuition tells me that people who think they know what others "should" do are
not necessarily any more well informed than those whose reasoning style may be
different, although they sound very confident at times. They may have various
qualities worth emulating, e.g. a sense of responsibility... and in some cases
they'd like you to think they're beyond reproach, of course! But they tend to
be conformists. If you prefer to think for yourself that's fine with me. ;-)

AH> Where it may be irritating to a "P" person is where
AH> it is experienced as "the tyranny of the shoulds".

JB> I'm sure that exact thing happened in my mother's car
JB> today. I was getting nervous, because there were too
JB> many "should have"s. As she pulled up to pick me up,
JB> the driver behind her was verbally expressing his upset
JB> too, so I should have (There it is again! |-) driven my
JB> own car.

Well, uh... although I've never met your mother I suspect she may be
an SJ. An SJ with some intuitive spark, to be sure, but essentially SJ. Why?
You say she taught commerce... a subject which would probably bore me to tears
because it's so routine & predictable. I enjoy subjects like music & English,
in which one can't be sure what will happen from one moment to the next and in
which many things may be open to interpretation. You see that I can & do make
judgements, but you recognize the "P" influence... and I see the same in a lot
of your comments here too. I can't help wondering whether the "shoulds" which
you find overwhelming have come at least partly from your mother. People with
genetic material in common don't always share the same learning style.... :-)
