This is an adult, acting this way?  Way to go, Wayne.  That'll teach me
a lesson, for sure.

Wayne make a mistake?  No Way!  When bad things happen to
Wayne (and it seems they often do), it is _always_ someone else's
fault. This time, I happen to be your convenient scapegoat.

Seems your _biggest_ (but probably not your only) mistake
was turning loose that CD of Win98FE on a 65GB HDD. And just
who, other than yourself, told you _that_ was a good idea? Maybe
your Win98 version automatically runs FDISK in every install,
maybe not. Maybe it ran FDISK because it didn't like your
partition setup?  No matter now, it did.  I plead innocent on
that one, since I didn't learn that drive someone mailed to you
was 65GB until _after_ you had a farkeled drive on your hands.
Another theory seen here (and embraced by you) is that the running of
FDISK without permission was because it was an HP OEM CD.  I don't think
I learned it was a HP custom version until after your HDD got farkeled,
either.

But even if I _did_ know in advance about that drive being 65GB,
and that your OEM windows was HP custom, it would _still_ not
be _my_ responsibility to come to your rescue in advance.  __it
happens to all of us now and then.  I've had my share, and I
know you've had yours.  The question is, what to do about it now?
And the answer is not to keep wallowing in misery and whining about
it being someone else's fault.

In your litany of whining, one of your other points has been that
you now think it was bad advice to install Windows _first_.
As if it wouldn't have run FDISK if you installed it after Linux?
Here's what I recommended to you, in an email dated 12/31/04 (after you
had mentioned an IRQ conflict in Linux) - - ". . . get Win98 working
well first, lest you lose the time it will take you to get the bugs
worked out of the Linux install." Sorry, in view of your subsequent
problems with Win98FE FDISK, that still doesn't seem like bad advice to
me.

This time, you left out the part about how your "instincts" told you
better.  I'd like to remind you that it was _your_ idea to install
Linux and Windows on the same HDD, not mine.

So you think I'm the root of all evil, having given you bad advice,
and from my viewpoint, I send you the ULTRA66 card and an 80-wire IDE
cable for $2.50 plus stamps (heck, they want $10 for just the cable, at
that CompUSA store you like).   And for thanks, after you farkle your
HDD, I get no end of grief out of the deal.  Thru email and Fido, you've
been whining about this for well over a month now.  Whoever that
anonymous donor of the HDD was, was a wise person.

You making any progress toward getting your hands on those WD Data
Lifeguard diagnostics?  I have them here, extracted to bootable Floppy.
Guess I'll have to mail those to you too.
