Well, that's a purely local/regional thing, although last week UPN didn't
run ENTERPRISE at all, opting instead for second runs of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP
MODEL and THE ROAD TO STARDOM. Neither did as well as an original episode
of Trek... but then again they also cost less than nothing, consdering they
were repeats. Supposedly, the episode that ran last night was a rerun of
"Stormfront, Part I."

I wouldn't say I'm much of an expert on this sort of thing, but let's tackle
it anyways...

I've always said that I think the "Faith of the Heart" theme fits the show
quite well. In any other series, it wouldn't work, but here the pop song
and montage of early space flight, as well as "movie night" and more
spectator sports type thigns, work as a bridge between the world of "now"
and the Trek universe of a later generations.

When the anonymous investors from the aerospace industry donated $3 million
to TrekUnited a couple weeks ago, one of the things they specifically
pointed to as an inspiratioin was the much-maligned theme..

Now, as far as incidental music, I still think ENTERPRISE remains much less
successful than some other series on the air. I think they've made a bigger
effort the past couple years, but the music continues to follow Berman's
mandate to tone it down quite a bit, I think. The music certainly hasn't
been as strong a part of the series of the last 18 years as it was during
TOS' run, which is a shame. Good background music can add a lot to a scene.
For example, I don't think the fight in the bar on Space Station K-7 in "The
Trouble with Tribbles" -- with Cyrano Jones antics throughout -- wouldn't
have been as effective without the music. There are exceptions in the later
series, of course, though. One that comes to mind is DS9's "Emissary"
premiere. Although the whole episode has good music, I'm especially fond of
the Battle of Wolf 359 scoring. The music makes you feel the last spasms of
the Saratoga as Sisko watch it explode.

It does have a different kind of theme, although I'm not sure I'd think of
it as a classic of the genre. The drumbeats of war, though, are a nice
touch.

I agree that ATLANTIS has a great theme, just as SG-1 conveys a more ancient
feel for their theme (although personally, I liked the SG-1 opening visuals
only seen on Showtime best, just tracing the lines of the sarcophagus with
no clips from the series). I haven't noticed the incidental music as much,
but I've heard some say that it is some of the best.

Kevin
