It wouldn't surprise me if they were making an effort to cut costs.
Certainly, "Threads" was relatively low on SFX, especially since they had
ample opportunity to use them with the battle that nearly destroyed the
Jaffa. Still, I think it worked very well as a character piece. As one web
review put it, this would've made a nice series finale...

sets.

D'oh! You have to catch it in reruns, then. "Citizen Joe," as I've
mentioned previously, has to be one of the best SG-1 episodes of the past
few years.

There was word from Sci-Fi a while back that they were interested in
pursuing series that went beyond the "space sci-fi" genre. I suppose you
could look at that as an effort to save money -- space shows have to be
among the most expensive, due ot all the FX. But I think it probably goes
beyond that, as SFC already has so many of these series with the Stargates
and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, not to mention ANDROMEDA. It's probably a good
idea to spread out to other ways of telling stories than just having them in
space...

Also, Sci-Fi has ran seres before that were cut from a different clothe than
their more series fare -- like the campy GOOD VS. EVIL (a USA castoff, where
it was known as G VS. E) and paranormal THE CHRONICLE.

BSG.

That said, I'm not sure I like the idea of moving BSG to another night. I
can see the idea of utilizing it to try and make another series popular, but
their current line-up fits so well together...

I've been watching the WONDERFALLS DVDs (I also purchased the DEAD LIKE ME
first season DVDs, as I don't have Showtime anymore, but I haven't gotten to
that yet) I've been rewatching the episodes that I first saw last year
(haven't gotten beyond "Karma Chameleon" yet, so all the new stuff is in the
future) and I have to say that they feel much better than they did last
year. Maybe my sense of humor has change or I know more what to expect from
WONDERFALLS, but it certainly has some charm to it.

Anyway, I noticed in the commentary for "Wax Lion" that they mentioned
putting in a ringer for Jewel Staite there, even though Jewel appears later
in the series, so I'm really looking forward to that. I've always liked her
work...

Kevin
