Of course the big news this week is that William Shatner has won his first
Emmy!  In some categories, awards are given out in advance.   One such
category is that of guest star, for which Shatner won for his role last
season on ABC's THE PRACTICE.

As series premieres continue to roll out, this week brings the return of
ANDROMEDA.   Many of you may already have seen the Sci-Fi Channel's ads for
the new season that will debut there this Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m.
Central.   For those of you without the Sci-Fi Channel, ANDROMEDA will still
appear in syndication, but a week or so later (and will probably also be
seen on WGN a week or so after that!), so there's plenty of opportunities
this year to see how they write themselves out of last year's cliffhanger.
BTW, I still haven't heard anything about exactly *how* or, more
importantly, *where* the series was filmed following the closing the
Canadian studio (Fireworks) where it was produced, but evidently it's being
made somewhere...

Another series writing itself out of an extreme ending is SMALLVILLE, which
remains in the old ENTERPRISE timeslot of Wednesday at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m.
Central.

At that exact same time -- to keep Wednesdays as a somewhat busy night --
the new series LOST will debut this Wednesday, following the adventures of a
group of castaway on a island where strange things are afoot.

Of course, ENTERPRISE doesn't return until October 8th (if you haven't heard
me say that for the umpteenth time recently).   Another big debut is on
October 10th (and 11th) as FARSCAPE: PEACEKEEPER WAR picks up where the
Sci-Fi Channel series left off.

Finally, for anyone who's interested, TRU CALLING was supposed to return for
a second season in November, but it sounds like FOX may be having second
thoughts.   I've heard a rumor that the season premiere has been pushed back
to January and the season has been reduced to six episodes.
