I really like the win XP version. And Wordpad starting in Win 95 was the
repacement for the earl;ier Windows versions MS Write.

While .rtf is the MS defauly Default you really have 4 choices. Under
the tool bar after selecting "File/Save As" down at the bottom of the
window opened you can click on "Save As type" and heve the choice of
RTF, Text, Test(MS DOS) and Unicode Text. And after selecting the
desired "save as" format there is a check box to make that choice your
Default type in wordpad.
