Ärende: Found New Hardware

On February 27, 2015 I talked about that I saw a window that said
"Found New Hardware" for a Printer whenever I powered up my XP box
after it had been Shut Down, or Restarted - but didn't see the window
if I Hibernated the XP box to turn it off, and turned it on the next
time I want to use it.

Since then I've HAD to Restart the XP box several times, so today I
thought I would try to fool the Found New Hardware thingy.

I only have one printer connected to the XP box with a USB 2.0 cable
but I only turn on the power strip that its AC Power Line Cord is
plugged in when I want to use the printer or some other thing that I
have plugged into that power strip.

Here is what I did today.

I usually (I try not using the word normal since I ain't) use a Limited
Users Account, but this window wanted to use a Administrator Account so
I entered the password for my XP Admin Account.

On the next screen where it asks if I want to use Windows Update,
I selected "No, not this time".

I selected "Install from a list or specify a location (Advanced)" in
the next screen.

"Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" was my selection
for the next screen.

Then I selected the printer/AIO that XP already uses and after pressing
the button there was a Error Message "The specific port is unknown".

I did this procedure twice.
The first time I didn't have the power strip the printer is plugged in
to turned on.
The second time I had the power turned ON to the power strip and the
printer.

Both times I got the same Error Message.

I thought that I could fool whatever had made the computer think I
added a Printer to this computer, but I failed.

On another day I will uninstall my Printer/AIO and see if after I had
Restarted the computer I could install the thing and see if that would
satisfy whatever caused it to THINK a new printer was connected.

Thanks to Daryl, Mark and Tom who offered suggestions to me when I
wrote about this a few months ago.
