Mark, Alan and Tom,

Until a neighbor told me his sister
(who lives two blocks further from the TelCo's CO)
was using DSL I hadn't had any hopes of getting it.

And because I live on the Outer Edge of the 18,000 Foot Limit
I just use (and Pay for) a Basic DSL service.

Hey!, I know the difference from downloading at 200BPS speed
and Basic DSL, DSL wins here!, and I'll keep it until MaBell
wants me to Pay in excess of what I think it's worth.

I'd hate to see that day, since the BBS I use is the closest one
to me and it isn't a Local Call for Dial-Up.

I never seen a AD from Insight Cable or Time Warner Cable
which shows a price for Broadband Only.

It's always $60 with TV and Phone or $79 with TV and Phone etc..

I don't want the Cable Co. Wire in my house for TV because what
I see on Over The Air Digital TV (which is very little) is enuf,
I'd rather be here in the computer room.

Yes, there is a TV with a Digital TV Conv. Box in this room,
It's connected to the Commodore 64, but I do ocassionally move
the TV-Game switch over to TV to look at the WX Report when Bad WX
is in the area (and I have the computers turned OFF).

And I don't want a Cable Company Telephone.

Ma Bell's LandLine still works when the Lights Go OFF because
of Severe WX.
OR
Someone Hitting a Utility Pole.
OR
Like it did 30 years ago when the Transformer on the Pole Failed
The SMOKE TEST.
SO
The Repair Crew replaced the Transformer with One that has
THREE TIMES the Capacity.
AND
Eexcept for a couple of times when the Repair Crew had to
Replace a Fuse, that transformer still hangs on the pole
supplying A.C. Power to me on it's Secondary
WHEN
There is Power coming in on it's Primary Winding.

If I was to have Phone Service from a Cable Company,
I would go buy an A.C. Generator with Auto Start Up (or BIG UPS)
so I would have Telephone Service, as long as their Cable stayed
connected back to the Cable Co. Distribution Center.
