Howdy! Sean,

 SD> Hello Ed,

EV> Even though I don't 'think' I have any MS Azure software on this XP

 SD> You never will. :)

EV> I began using the internet in 1996.

I moved to a place nearer to where I worked, 20+ miles away from Town.
On my Heathkit Sixer there was one Ham I could chat with in the area.
So I used CW and AM on HF most of the time.

The installation I worked at was being shut down and I got transferred to
a job in Town so moved back to Town to be closer to my new workplace.

After getting back in Town I could talk to more Hams on the Sixer.

EV> But because I have read BBS Messages (since 1984) about tricks some

SD> Right now, running XP is a giant, screaming, oozing security hole.
SD> You're not being careful in that respect.

I just wrote Mark some comments about my using XP.

SD> As an IT professional, I'm telling you you're asking for it running XP.
SD> As a friend, I'd recommend moving up to Windows 10 when you can (you
SD> can still get it for free).

SD> If you have issues getting W10, let me know and I will send you a legal

SD> If you have a legal Windows 7 or 8 key, that will work to register W10
SD> with the same version of WinX that you are using (Home, Pro, et
 SD> cetera).

I'm a Computer Hobbyist.
I tell the people who I talk to about their computers that My Knowledge is
just a little bit above the Kindergarten Level. .... ..

I don't own a pc newer than Vista.
I don't use it as frequently as I do the XP pc.
I do turn on the Vista more often than I do the C=64 pc.

EV> After I turn a MS Windows pc ON I usually don't use it until after
EV> I've updated the Definitions for the 'Watchdog' programs I use on my
EV> pc, i.e.: AntiVirus, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D and
 EV> Winpatrol.

SD> If you are using multiple antiviral software packages on your computer,
 SD> you are going to have serious issues.  Only use one antiviral software;
SD> the spyware stuff may conflict with each other also.

I only use one antivirus program, Avast!, along with those other programs.

SD> All of that software should automatically update. You should never
SD> have to do that task yourself if the software is configured correctly.

As I mentioned to Mark, I'm too Cheap to pay if a Free product is offered.
So I Update the Definitions Myself.

EV> It doesn't take that much time for the Windows pc to do the updates,
EV> and I feel better after I've done the updates, that maybe the
EV> 'baddies' won't get access to my computer (this time).

SD> If you're running a modern version of Windows, have your Windows
SD> Firewall configured correctly as well as your router's firewall, use
SD> antiviral/malware software correctly, and are careful where you go on
 SD> the Web, you're fine.

I would still be using Windows 98 SE if My Brother hadn't asked me to go
look at this HP XP MCE pc model and tell Him what I thought of it.
I told Him that it looked good to me.

I liked the specifications so much that I bought one of those HP XP MCE pc
a few weeks later in 2006.

I thought it would be O.K. in 2006 to start using a "Modern" computer since
lots of people in this Echo were having good experiences with their XP pc's.

The Price of the HP pc was reasonable for me to buy, it was a lot cheaper
that what I paid to have the DOS 5.0 486DX33 pc built for me back in 1994.

Iirc XP computers started selling about 2001 (???) ..--..

SD> All of my Windows machines update automatically with the security
SD> software whenever they're turned on and normally will check every 24
SD> hours for updates unless the provider pushes out a mandatory update.

Since I got the most recent Version of Malwarebytes, I noticed that it
will grab a Definition Update automatically when I turn the power On and
begin to use the pc each day.

EV> I try not to be stupid, just careful.

SD> That tagline wasn't chosen by me, I promise.

I wouldn't have minded if You had chose it.
If I don't like the Tagline MM picks out I look through the list for
another one to put in the messages that I write.

I have MM set to select a Random Tagline, but "I" decide which one goes with
a message.
