The HELP is easy enough to take care of.

Go to your 4DOS folder, if you don't have a 4START.BTM file, call up your
favorite editor to create one.  On the first line (or wherever), type the
following line:

  alias /r d:\program~1\4dos\alias4.dos

("d:" is the drive letter, "\program~1\4dos\" is the folder where 4DOS
resides, "ALIAS4.DOS" is a file that you are going to create next.)  Save
and quit that file.  Again, call up your text editor with ALIAS4.DOS and
enter the following lines:

  ale=q3w d:\program~1\4dos\alias4.dos
  ; q3w is the name of whatever text editor you are using, and, you are
  ; editing this file.
  4help=d:\program~1\4dos\help.exe
  ; or is it HELP.COM ?  Substitute the correct drive/path/filename.
  ; version 7.50 of 4DOS has already named the help file 4HELP and I'm not
  ; sure if renaming the help file of previous versions to 4HELP wouldn't
  ; interfere with its operation so it is probably better to set an alias
  dhelp=d:\windows\command\HELP.COM
  ; Substitute the correct drive/path/filename

Save and quit the file.  Now, (depending on the directives in your 4DOS.INI
file) whenever you start a 4DOS session, all your aliases will be read
immediately and if you should type DHELP on the command line, (if
everything is working correctly) the DOS help will present itself.  If you
should type 4HELP, you will get the 4DOS help session.

From what you say later, that is because there is no MSDOS.SYS file.  The
MSDOS.SYS file is "basically" a text file to tell Windoooz how it should
run.

Pity!  Oooops, I didn't mean that.

Fire up your web browser and do a search for "MSDOS.SYS" (without the quote
marks, of course and case doesn't matter).  There are LOTS of references
for that and a good number of those references have some meaningful
examples.  Or, would you like me to send you an example of mine via net
mail?
