Microsoft has retained tech pages for DOS and for W31 within
their 'support' pages, they just don't brag about them. :-) 

I'm just guessing because I've never seen any of M$ source code
but isn't it possible many of the recent exploits being patched
do not even _exist_ within legacy versions of Windows? W95 was
16/32 bit software and I'm told some portions of W98 were 16
bit software as well. Maybe the 'security by obscurity'
combined with a lack of compatibility with recent attempts to
undermine the OS makes patching legacy versions hardly
necessary?

Funny you should mention lazy programmers. I was just reading a
forum where the guys were ripping on the Mozilla team adding
"bells-n-whistles" to Firefox and not fixing the major memory
leakage and other bugs that were reported long ago. Sad to say
they are right, Mozilla is not tending to "business" and they
aren't all _that_ irreplacable now that OPERA is free (many
others mentioned OPERA is also faster than Firefox).
