Good to hear that Parallels Workstation did the trick... Updates are good if
possible-- two good tools (especially if Windows Update isn't working for
him): And yes, July 11 is the official 'End of Life' date for
Win98/98SE/ME.XP pre-SP2.

-- Microsoft's Update CD, which supports multiple operating systems with
updates as of February 2004 (or was it Feb 2005)? I can mail you a copy of
this if it would be useful

-- The Unofficial Win98 Service Pack 2 download... this adds a bunch more
updates, along with an option Win2000-style set of desktop icons and some
other features. I've used it widely at my school, and despite its unofficial
nature seems to work very well. It can be found at:
