There have been numerous complaints directed to Microsoft regarding WGA
false notifications.  I wouldn't necessarily blame this one on McAfee as
it sounds like something went wrong with WGA.

MS has set up a web site where you can report WGA problems and
troubleshoot the causes.  Also, you might consider downloading the WGA
notification removal utility I previously mentioned.  Somehow you must
have downloaded the notification patch and installed it on your Thinkpad
otherwise it would not have told you the OS was pirated.

You need to set your updates to "Notify" you but not automatically download and
install them.  Then when you go to the MS Update site, set the installation to
"custom" and hide the WGA Notification Patches.  They won't be downloaded.
