The majority of computer users do not use their computer in a
creative fashion. The computer is a 'game machine' and chat
device not unlike a cell phone. Just not as portable.  Always
makes me laugh at the agonizing over "networking" computers
around the house since there nothing on them of any real
consequence and most homes it's a short trip to the room
where the computer is sitting. :-)

There _would_ be some loss of time involved to redo 4 gigs of
MP3 files though. :-)

I own a ZIP 100 drive but it's not in use. I don't trust it and
writing/reading it was too slow for my tastes. CDs are so very
inexpensive that the ZIP disk is a non-starter for me. 

Not sure I would trust a thumbdrive with any files that were of
any significance to me over time. To me a thumbdrive is a way
to move data from one machine to another quickly and easilly
and nothing more.
