Oh? My copy of WinXP makes a boot floppy fine. 
(WinXP makes a WinME boot floppy.)
Works everywhere I've tried it.

I missed that. What did Jean do with a boot floppy. 
(I e-mailed Dan Ceppa a boot floppy last year but he 
has never said anything about it.)

I'm starting to think the GNUWin version might be a senior moment.
I suggest you get the disk images for parted and stop futzing
with the M$ stuff. Dan Ceppa was having trouble with a bootable CD
and I sent him a suitable floppy disk image. 

If I can find the disks I demo'd with, I'll email them to you.

Is that what you want to do? M$ offers a *SIX* floppy boot
system for XP. Even then, the functionality ou want may not be there.

A boot floppy doesn't do much all by itself but lets you 
use other tools.

I'd suggest the "BartPE" disk or if you're in bed with Micro$oft go
throught the hoops to get "WinPE" (PE stands for 
"Preinstallation Environment."

Excellant advice! A little more work to do it with floppies
but developes useful skills along the way.
