AZ> Charles... you seem to have missed my point. Regardless of
AZ> your default browser, Eudora will use IE to display HTML
AZ> mail by its own default. (You can change that). And even
AZ> though you discourage people sending you HTML emails, you
AZ> may receive them anyway... and if viewed using Eudora (with
AZ> its default display setting),

I installed Eudora so long ago I don't know what the default
settings were but as I've mentioned before I followed
instructions re:security settings and Eudora does _not_ use IEx
by default or otherwise.

AZ> IE vulnerabilities-- such as running Active X scripts
AZ> without asking for user permission-- can cause problems.
AZ> And these sorts of things are not picked up by AV software.

I followed M$ and other website's recommendations and have set
ActiveX to ask me first. Really Alan, my version of IEx v6 as
it is now is as safe as IEx can be but FireFox is my _default_
browser for everything.

AZ> While no viruses target the Eudora address book to spread
AZ> themselves (the way they often target Outlook or OE address
AZ> books), Eudora's default use of IE is a vulnerability.

Nothing here uses IEx by default.

AZ> Since you don't care much for HTML-formatted mail, a simple
AZ> solution is turn off Eudora's default setting. (I don't
AZ> have an installation of Eudora handy to tell you the exact
AZ> steps or wording of that setting-- I think it refers to
AZ> 'Microsoft viewer' or something similar rather than
AZ> explicitly mentioning IE).

Try:

tools>options> Viewing Mail>Message Window>

Uncheck "Use Microsoft's Viewer" box

At the bottom of the same display uncheck "Allow executables in
HTML content"
