As you have pointed out above, the lack of QA is the fault of
_management_ and not the union workers.

Again, this is a function of management, not workers. 

I have lived in the shadows of "The Big Three" all of my life
and have worked at FORD and GM auto plants. I could write a
book about my experiences working in QA for Lear Siegler
supplying parts to the auto companies and how management
squashed any attempt by workers to improve quality and fought
me every inch of the way. 

When engineers with BS and MS degrees place the blame on auto
workers with (typically) a HS diploma doesn't anyone in the USA
realize how absurd this really is? Workers are not empowered to
accept or reject parts. They just do what they are told to do
by management or they are replaced. 

I admire your many accomplishments Tom but your determination
to blame unions for college grads who shirk their
responsibilities puts you in a category we are all too well
acquainted with here in the Detroit area. The disgruntled
unable to earn as much as an auto-worker type. Jealousy and
envy can be an ugly thing especially when it distorts a
person's view of reality. 

Read about Mitsubishi's ongoing QA problems and a few of VWs
and then think about that for awhile.
