Quit using your satellite phone and go back to Morse. :)  I bet you can still
send and receive Morse at a reasonable rate. :)

Good job.  Repairing Dells can be a challenge since for the most part you'll
receive no help from tech support at Dell and they'll overcharge you for parts.

Don't sell yourself short.  You're an experienced user who can take things
apart and understands the workings of not only the machine but the system. 
Your wife and son are like so many users - they just want things to work
without worrying about what goes on inside.  My wife, daughter, and son are the
same way.

I still get an occasional call about some PC problem he's having.  His employer
issued a fully loaded Dell notebook computer to him so he could access their
network while he's at home or on the road somewhere.  Most of the problems he
has are related to security issues and exchanging data.  But sometimes he'll
call and ask about how something is supposed to work in XP.

As far as MS Word is concerned, Microsoft has had a version of Word available
for the Mac for many years.  Programming for the Mac has been very lucrative
for MS.  Office for the Mac is still very popular and sells well.
Apple does have a new version of iWorks which is supposed to very good.  My son
doesn't think so as he has a trial copy on his new iMac.  He says his daughters
(primary users) do not like it.
