 My earlier reply misunderstood your question.  Yes, the ramdrive is
 created by default and the ebd.cab contents are extracted to it.
 As JG pointed out, the cab is compressed, because the files won't
 fit on the ERD.  That means they can't be extracted to the ERD,
 requiring the ramdrive.

 Additionally, the ERD sets COMSPEC=%RAMD%:\command.com.  That
 allows you to use the floppy drive for third party or data floppies
 without getting the error that the command interpreter can't be
 found.

 That's all relevant to Win9X, but not XP.  Even if the XP installation
 is formatted to FAT32, one is far better off using the recovery
 console (against which CS advises), rather than a Win9X DOS ERD.

 It simply isn't intuitively obvious which DOS executables should or
 should not be used with a NT class OS formatted to FAT32.  Fortunately
 NTFS makes that question a moot point.
