Win95 and 98 have networking software built-in, including drivers for many
cards (at least models that were current at the time they were released). Both
probably include drivers for the SMC card (though you may have to find the
actual model number if it's not auto-detected-- and most SMC cards from that
era-- at least in my experience, have jumpers for IRQ and other settings.
Luckily, the jumpers and their settings are labelled on the cards). The PCI
card MAY be autodetected by Win9x, but also may not be...

Win 3.1 does not include networking software or NIC drivers, unless you're
actually running Windows for Workgroups 3.10 or 3.11.

If you're not running WFWG, it may be worth upgrading to one of them-- or to
Win95 (which would probably run fine on the 486-66, assuming enough RAM (16 MB
or more) and hard drive space.

You should be able to find both Win9x and WFWG network drivers for many popular
NICs online if they're not included with your Windows version-- but you WILL
need to know more about what model cards they are. For the PCI card, check the
chips on the card-- many no name-brand NICs include a Realtek chip with a model
number... and that's what kind of card it is, regardless of the brand name.

You should be able to find very cheap NICs if need be... so if these don't work
simply replace them.
