As I mentioned to Jay, I think microsoft stated this was a
combination hardware/software problem related to certain
chipsets or motherboards and not a 'universal' problem for
everyone.

Roxio is great software when it works. Unfortunately I was
unable to install it here. I use NERO and other than a bit of
confusion with the user interface it works.

For me there is a bit of confusion with the 'drag n drop'
burning of CDRWs. I have the HP driver that attaches itself to
the drive but I also have an identical function for NERO (or so
it seems). I have not experimented with the NERO version as
yet. I'm wondering if the HP driver will interfere with the
NERO version etc. 

The entire subject of burning CDs and/or DVDs is so glossed
over with no reliable source to state "this is what you do,
this is what you do NOT do" that it makes me tired just trying
to sort out the mess. 

I suspect many who write about burning either don't really
understand the details themselves but feel compelled to earn a
few pesos pretending that they _do_ understand it. :-\
