I hate when that happens. I'm sure you'll sort it out.

The written exam remains enough of a barrier to keep out some of the roger beep
crowd. One reason I stay off repeaters is to keep away from the "good buddies."
A few days ago while listening for a 2 meter net I heard some fool calling "CQ"
on the repeater. Another HAM keyed up and explained how all the guy need do is
identify and indicate he was listening and calling CQ on a repeater was
considered bad form. The fool actually tried to argue the point.

TL> My HF antenna is down...and since I am not an extra, what's available to
TL> me on 80 is really restricted.

I currently only have a 5 band verticle up on the garage roof. A friend of mine
is giving me an old 40ft tower and Hygain TH-6DX tri-band beam. He even has a
rotator he's throwing in. My back yard is huge so it will fit nicely. His yard
is small and backs up to high voltage lines going across. He has a crankup
tower and "Butterfly" antenna for his property.

EH>> repeaters. I prefer to use simplex. Why use a repeater when the

TL> Well, you don't have to "change channels" if you're on the repeater.

LOL!

I've witnessed guys having their 2meter rig programmed with nothing but
repeaters. I was chatting with one new HAM at our local club meeting and when I
explained that I talk mostly on simplex he asked what that was. I held my
laughter and explained it all to him. He was truely interested.

TL> That's an understatement....Back when you could read Fido echomail on
TL> the web easily, I made some comments that the kind of stuff that went on
TL> in the Cesspool echoes was an embarassment to Fidonet...people kept on
 TL> acting like dimbulbs.

You'd think the dimbulbs would have their hands full with usenet.

TL> I suggested to many that they simply vacate those echoes, and let the
TL> bad folks play on their own.....but they stayed.

I'd rather do something constructive than read some of the rot in some of those
echos.

TL> It struck me that unlike ham radio, that can and does provide services
TL> and advancements for society, much of Fidonet is simply
TL> self-serving....a hobby that simply strokes the ego. As such, it's
TL> possible that it can represent a very distorted view.

You have a good point there.

TL> Anyway, I withdrew from a lot of echoes, and then after what I felt were
TL> some arbitrary and silly rulings from the new IC and the current ZC,
TL> coupled with the Ward charade, I turned in all my Fidonet administrative
 TL> chips,,,

Some of the idiots in FIDONEWS seem to think you are still at it.

TL> Even now the nodelist entry for the Echolist Robot is inaccurate....and
TL> so far netmails asking for a correction have gone unanswered.

Don't hold your breath waiting for it to get any better.

TL> Out of frustration I setup some IRC channels ,.,,, and now and again I
TL> get to talk to folks who I have met here in Fidonet.

I used to do IRC, but got tired of the jokers wanting warez and porn.

TL> Just the other day, a Fidonet sysop used one of the IRC channels to ask
TL> if I could send him a current nodelist...I emailed him one, and wondered
TL> how dydfunctional his link was if he had to use IRC to ask someone who
TL> isn;t active to send him a nodelist.

Heh heh heh... now there's a new one.

TL>> As far as saying terrible things....that's been going on for years...
EH>> I know how it is. Been there, done that.

TL> Yep....and since nothing that's said will change the world, there is no
TL> need to pay attention to it, repsond to it, or be concerned about it.

Exactly.
