Ärende: HOW YA ALL DOING?

RW>> I have to tell you, there's a move in karate called the 'flying

RW>> would be much easier the body than a physical activity such as
RW>> karate. Although, I really d like sparring with the others in the
 RW>> class.

CS> Ouch. No thanks, not for me <grin>. Flying leaps are out.

After that, they were out for me too. :o)

CS>> due to a bad problem with a nerve in my neck but we did a pre-test 2

 RW>> kewl.

CS>> 47 pushups (Typical marine style) 48 situps (C-section never really

RW>> Keep doing them, or your stomach muscles will atrophe and your belly

CS> Too late <g>. Naw, it's a 'mummy tummy' but not too bad. I weigh
CS> 127 at 5'1" which means I could stand to lose a few, but not bad.

Not bad at all. That was my high school weight about the time I graduated.

CS>> 15:14 on the 1.5 mile run (not blazing, but well in passing for my
 CS>> age)

RW>> Hmmmm. What's the maximum time limit for that run? I've seen a lot

 CS> 18:15 I think? Might be 17:15. They reduced it a bit ago. 15:14
CS> isnt blazing speed and a tall person can almost speedwalk that? I
CS> believe men in my age group get about 16:20 (or slightly less than a
CS> minute off). The longer legs they have more than offset that
 CS> difference.

LOL! They have the criteria wrong then. They should measure a person's
stride and figure that into the time allowed. Those with long legs would
have to run it in a shorter time than short stride people.

RW>> retirees who were so out of shape, they couldn't run that distance
RW>> if had to. i.e. an ex-employee of mine was so fat when he got out
RW>> after 2 years that he had a heart attack at 42 years of age. After
RW>> talking wit him, I found out why he was so overweight. He told me
RW>> that he snacked fried bacon after work, every night while watching
RW>> TV. A man about 5'1 who weighed nearly 300lbs.

CS> Wince, I've seen some do that. Most don't and Don stayed active so
CS> at 57, he's in decent shape. We have a home lifecycle machine which
CS> we both use and we walk alot out here. Havent used the car since I
CS> came back. Work is about 1.3 miles away.

As long as the weather cooperates, that's a good walk. Wouldn't want to do
that in inclimate weather though.

RW>> Swimming excerice makes your muscle stretch and maybe he's hoping
RW>> that your nerve problem will be relieved by that.

CS> Thats the theory. That and high impact stuff, isnt something he
CS> wants me doing anymore. My knees are ok (sometimes trouble me but
CS> not a surgery candidate) but my right ankle is a problem at times.

I was told by a nurse the other day that they and doctors who walk the
floors of hospitals have problems like that. Always on their feet, their
circulation isn't what it should be.

RW>> Swimming efficiency is all in breathing and coordination. I havn't
RW>> bee swimming in ages, but when I did, I was pretty good. Gym class
RW>> in high school required some time at the pool. I was asked by the
RW>> swim teacher (who also served as the school's swim coach) to join
RW>> the team after I his star swimmer in a race. Didn't have time for
RW>> it, but I think it wo have been a hoot.

CS> Would have been! My Mom swears I was swimming before I could walk.
CS> I just end up splashing more than moving....

I'm sure you've heard of the birthing process under water...babies are
born swimming and don't have a need to come up for air right away.

CS>> waived on the time. Have to test this out though.

RW>> If you like getting wet and having loose muscles (more agile),
RW>> that's way to go...Running, IMO, is too sweaty and hard on the body.
RW>> Especial the feet and legs.

CS> True, and thats the idea here. I don't mind running if there's no
CS> pressure to perform at speed. I often run home from work on fine
CS> days but I go at a very slow pace. Probably a 20 min 1.5mile run
 CS> pace <g>.

On your toes?
