I've thought since our last discussion of two very strong
food aversions that I acquired in childhood: I've overcome
one heartily and have sort-of-overcome the other. Neither
was wholly irrational: I used to love cheese as an infant
until my father gave me some Limburger as a joke. Well,
that certainly put me off cheese for a while and Limburger
for pretty permanent, which strikes me as a completely
normal reaction. The other,  I learned to hate the Chinese
glass noodles known as fen si after nearly choking on them.
That aversion was less rational, as it was blaming the
vehicle (the noodle) rather than the efficient cause (my
greediness). The cherry on the airplane aversion was I think
the silliest, as I blamed the beacon only.

Interestingly, I have acquired a few food aversions as
an adult, and these have come and gone rapidly, in as little
as an hour: periodically I will have my taste buds set for,
say, lamb chops, but when the time comes to actually eat
them, I just can't do it. This has happened only with round
bone or shoulder chops, never with rib or loin chops, and
has never lasted more than an hour or two. After the chops
have sat around for a while, congealing in their grease,
they become edible again. Go figure.

Rather they really like the heavy spice flavorings than that they
dislike the flavor of the meat.

Fresh food prepared plainly can be enjoyable, and not-so-fresh
food prepared in a spicy style can be enjoyable, but that doesn't
mean that if spicy food is put in front of one, it's not fresh:
i.e., hot and other strong flavorings aren't necessarily used to
overcome or mask the shortcomings of the original ingredients
but rather can be enjoyed for themselves.

Here's one where the choice and freshness of ingredients
would be vital:

Potato salad
cat: side
servings: 8

1 lb boiled potatoes
1 cubed cucumber
1 red or yellow onion 
2 Tb capers
1 cubed apple (to 2)
2 Russian (important) pickled cucumbers cubed (to 3)
chives according to taste
dill ditto
5 Tb mayo (you might try substituting some with yoghurt
- or the wonderful and fatty Russian smetana)

Mix and enjoy.
