Flew out from seeing my father (and doing his paperwork)
yesterday. As there was no Carol component on this trip,
I used IAD and DCA airports, not Baltimore. Out of DCA,
there is the Shuttle, which used to be the Eastern Shuttle,
then the Trump Shuttle, now the US Airways Shuttle. It is a
premium-price product, catering to business people and such.

One of the cool things about the Shuttle, in addition to
free Budweiser even in coach (they do stock Heineken, but
they don't tell you this!), is free magazines, ranging
from Pool and Spa to Foreign Affairs to, oddly, the New
York Times Sunday Magazine minus the rest of the paper, the
choice depending most likely on what they can get for cost
or less each month. I read several today, from which I glean
the following.

Questions that should never have been asked dept.:
 The slot canyons in northern Arizona are off the
 beaten track, so what better way to get there than
 in an H2 Hummer?

Sweet and spicy cucumbers
cat: salad
servings: 6

2 English cucumbers, sliced thin
2 ts salt
1/2 c vinegar
3 Tb sugar
1/2 ts crushed red pepper
chopped chives for garnish (opt)

In colander, combine cucumbers and salt. Let
stand 15 min, stirring occasionally. Drain and
pat dry.

Meanwhile, combine vinegar, sugar, and red pepper.

Combine cucumbers and dressing and stir to blend.
Refrigerate 15 min to 2 hr. Serve cold, garnished
with chives.
