Hi Carol,

CS> stuff like that. We can always vacate the hotel sooner if we are

RH> We didn't have the wiggle room; Steve finished his school in San Angel
RH> on a Friday and had to be at Fort Devens about a week later. Took

CS> Thats tight. Fortunately our main thing is to get Charlotte in school
CS> fast, then I have 30 days leave to work out the rest.

This was the last of his initial entry training after basic. We knew
he'd be assigned to Fort Hood after Devens so figured on moving me & the
girls there & get settled before he went.

CS> Flea bombs first day if inspections do not get in the way. We had

RH> I can't take them any more with the asthma--especially if they linger
RH> carpeting.

CS> Well, we are lucky really. No one has much on allergies here.

Good! Mine were probably around as a kid but not as noticable as my
brother's hay fever every August so it wasn't picked up on until I left
home & married Steve.

CS> Don thinks well of 'Summers Pass' which is a little less than 2 miles
CS> from home in another direction. One of the places we would never

RH> Sounds good; anything smaller than that aircraft hanger that calls
RH> itself Blob's Park. (G) Still, that was smaller than the Hofbrauhaus
RH> Rachel and David took us to in Las Vegas.

CS> Snicker, it's a decent place. Horseshoe shaped bar with standard bar
CS> munchies available. If you don't mind not fancy, the popcorn shrimp
CS> baskets are pretty good. They also have fried clams that are decent
CS> and the tartar sauce at least used to be home made right there.

CS> There's also a chinese restraunt just up the street in another
CS> direction from us. Having been in asia for a time, I was not
CS> incredibly impressed but I did find the egg rolls to be quite good and
CS> everyone else raved over the place. It doesnt look fancy but the food
CS> is even by my asian standards for such,
CS> 'adequate' for the price. It's also in the same center with the
 CS> Harris Teeter grocery store.

So there are choices.

CS> Too bad Momma's Kitchen folded. We'd have absolutely HAD to eat
CS> there. Cheap looking, dirt cheap prices, and just flat out great home
CS> cooking. They also had cans of campbells soups ad you'd pick one out
CS> for a 1$ and they'd fix you that. Very clean, very cheap, and very
CS> good. I wrote about them here many years ago.

That would have been a fun one. (G)

RH> Thanks for the heads up; we still have to obey the no military rule fo
RH> a bit longer. Since neither of us golf, it sounds like we would have
RH> use for that place, even in the day time.

CS> Me neither, but if there are some into golfing (pretty sure they have
CS> day fees and rentals), they may be interested in it as a sidelight.

CS> One of the different 'options' my place offers if folks want to do it,
CS> is 1/2 day or 1 day (6 and 12 hour respectively) ocean fishing trips.

RH> That's an option, but one we wouldn't rate very high on our "got to do
RH> list. How much would it cost those that wanted to ride along but not
RH> fish?

CS> Grin, sorry but the price would be the same. I'd also advise folks
CS> took dramamine or some other motion sickness solution before going out
CS> if they arent used to such. Even I would as the short chop isnt the
CS> same as a big navy ship motion. I recon some would want to go a 1/2
CS> day trip and the others, perhaps i could line up a ship tour or
 CS> something else interesting.

It's just that we're not fisher folks. Steve, possibly, but not me.

CS> loaners of everything. Suggested though is a cooler and a large box
CS> of large sized ziplock baggies. They normally will clean your catch
CS> for about 2$ a fish. I'll have to check current prices on that though.
CS> Worth every penny if you've a big group of stuff. No prior
CS> experience needed though those with experience obviously tend to catch
 CS> more fish <g>.

Another option is to buy some off those that have caught fish, had it
cleaned but don't want to take it home. We'd freeze it good & hard & it
would keep until we got back to GA.

CS> Clam fest fun, but lookie what I did with this little pan-fry I caught
 CS> *myself* (hehehe).

RH> I can imagine the possibilities with this group. (G)

CS> Oh yeah! Hey, depending on the timing, Don knows some good crabbing
CS> spots too. Has to be the right season for that down VB area and I'm
CS> not sure if that matches the northern area timing. Softshells and
CS> blue shells are the local favs. Not much to the claws but the center
 CS> body is good eats.

It would work; have to check the timing.

RH> In that case, pre arrainged is much better. We all left Blob's
RH> early-ish and regathered back at the Shipp's house.

CS> Would be like that, designated drivers or a pre-set taxi pickup run.

We all had "who rides with who" groups pretty well set over the week end
& it worked out quite well, IMO.

Catch you later,
Ruth
