==================
Hi Sean,

RH> Make that a minority of two. I would rather have a plain hamburger

SD> For me, I'll take a cheeseburger over a plain hamburger, but if it's
SD> fake cheese (like McD's), forget it. I'm really not supposed to eat
SD> "real" cheese on my diet, but every so often, I have to have a real

I'd rather have the real cheese over the plastic, any day. Part of it
stems from the time just before Steve went into the Army; we were on
Food Stamps and qualified for the free government give aways. The only
one we go in that time was 15 pounds of imitation Velveeta--ugh! We did
use it up but it ook a long time and since then, we've sworn off
anything but real cheese, no matter how tight the budget is.

SD> cheeseburger. In fact, I'm about to go get a little gas-powered
SD> hibachi-style grill for my wife and myself (since we have very little
SD> precious space outside and what we do have, it's cement and asphalt)
SD> so I can grill. All those years in fast food joints have helped me

Good! Sounds like fun. We had a little charcoal one when we first got
married and pure wore it out.

SD> learn how to cook better - yes, I experimented with food there and not
SD> by using automated methods - and I really enjoy cooking a big juicy
SD> burger on a grill. I daresay that I prefer grilled food of any sort
 SD> to regular cooking.

I do a lot (or have Steve do it), especially in the summer in warmer
climates. Here we can do it year round.

RH> Years ago, McD's started adding a slice of "cheese" to their fish
RH> order the fish without cheese. Since it's a special order, it has to
RH> be cooked fresh. May cost a couple of minutes of wait time but it's
RH> nice & hot. (G) But, still, overall, my 2 favorite items on the
RH> McD's menu are the fruit and yogurt parfait & the M&M McFlurry. (G)

SD> Actually, the chances are that if you're getting a Filet-O-Fish,
SD> without cheese, is that you're getting the same stuff everyone else
SD> is. If you want a
SD> guarenteed fresh one, order it without salt. They have to put a fresh
SD> one down, just for you. Trust me-I worked on and off at McD's for
SD> over ten years. That's the best way to get a hot, fresh filet.

I've watched them do one up, just for me. Biting into it, it is hot!

SD> However, I much, much prefer Arby's or Burger King's fish sandwiches
SD> (in that order) to McD's. Nowadays, I get terribly sick if I eat at

Same here but I used to have no choice as a kid when my parents wanted
to feed 5 kids on the cheap. McDs was the lowest price and most
commonly available.

SD> McD's. The other day, I ate a plain double cheeseburger and paid
SD> dearly for two days for doing so. I try not to eat out much any more
SD> since my body is now really sensitive to fast food. If I do go out,
SD> I'll go to Arby's and get a fish or a roast beef sandwich (both plain,

I have to watch the fat content since geting my gall bladder out. If I
buffer the fatty thing with other stuff, I can handle it better.

SD> please). If I cook at home, I'll garnish my burger with a slice of
SD> Swiss or extra-sharp (yum!) Cheddar cheese.

My favorite over all Swiss is the Jarlsberg type but usually settle for
something less expensive.  The only cheddar I buy is the extra sharp;
the others are too bland.

SD> I stay away from the F&Y parfait because the yogurt that is used is
SD> LOADED with sugar. I used to make those things 50 at a time, so I
SD> started reading up on the yogurt and figured out that's why I got a
SD> tummyache after eating one (diabetes really makes you sensitive to
 SD> sugar!).

OK, good thing they only come in the small size out here. We were in
the greater Tucson area test market for them so we've been eating them
since they first came out.

SD> I wish they would bring back the All-American meal though. A single
SD> cheeseburger, small fries, and a small drink for $1.75. Those were
 SD> the days. :>

I remember a basic burger, fries and small drink at McDs for 45 cents,
10 cents extra for the cheeseburger. But, I've got a few years on you.
(G)

SD> Speaking of fries, I read a story on the CNN website the other day
SD> about how loaded US fries are with trans fat (and how Denmark had
SD> nearly none). It's because oils with trans fats are cheaper to make
SD> than ones without (the partially hydrogenated thing). Pretty sad, eh?

I saw that in the paper; interesting tho how it differed even within the
test cities, depending on what that area's tastes were. And, probably
their economic level too.
