======================
Hi Ruth,

-> part of 5 kid families with the parents driving a station wagon.

RH> We were a two kid family, and we had a station wagon too ... and often
RH> crammed five kids back there when we had friends along. I can
RH> remember cramming six into the back of my dad's old Chrysler New

From the time I was about 6 or 7 until well after I left home, my
parents always got the big old station wagons. Since child saftey laws
were more lax then, they would usually pop one or two of us in the tail
end with the luggage to relieve the back seat crowding. On camping
trips tho, it was bad as that part was all full of gear. They would
have one kid in the front seat middle and the rest in the back seat.
We only had 4 summers with those trips with all 5 of us home, then
another couple with 4 kids at home. After that, my parents took
fly/drive trips by themselves or only had a couple kids for a camping
trip as others were working, got married (me [G]) or otherwise weren't
able to make the trip. The trip in 1966 was when we found out that
Carnation Instant Breakfast may give you all the nutrition of a meal but
sure doesn't fill you up like one.

-> True, if you have a metalsmith in the area. I'd have to search one

RH> ...or you find a college with metalsmithing classes.

I suspect SCAD (Savvanah College of Art & Design) would fulfil that
hole. I might look into taking some classes with them while we're here,
just for.

-> not yet found a natural foods store that carries stuff in bulk bins.

RH> No Wild Oats, Whole Foods, or Trader Joe's in the area?

Nope! Spent some money at Fresh Market yesterday on herbs, spices and
misc. Spent even more at the commissary at Fort Stewart restocking the
pantry. Remembered to grab balsamic vinegar but forgot white and
cider--thought I had them already. Got to drive a cart again. (G)

-> I found my bin of UFOs yesterday. It's stuff I cut out in HI but planned

 RH> Unidentified half-Finished Objects?

Basically, yes.

-> Found my baby crock pot so it's got a small beef roast in it today. I
-> found my pots and pans a couple of hours ago.

 RH> Treasure!

Yes, now I can cook "for real".

->  RH> can get a little strange.

-> Want to borrow my cane?

RH> Got one, thanks; I just never use it.

You would be suprised at how steady it makes you. Plus, you get all
sorts of folks holding doors, etc like the young lady that helped me
today (she was about 10 years old).

-> That's the brand we got; I can just see old Clarence spinning in his
-> grave over the quality (or lack thereof).

RH> The stuff with the "sauce" on it would give him catfits.

What's Ian's favorite word, Bleurgh?

-> veggie bowls. Have to get a small freezer so I can do some stock up

RH> We have a big old chest freezer here - harvest gold - that's full of
RH> all sorts of things. They turn up at tag sales sometimes, when

I'd like one but space constraints don't allow it.

-> RH> if she can. Indoor cats eat weird stuff.

-> Our last cat would pretty well ignore my machine sewing but had a 6th
-> sense of when I was working with elastic. She didn't care for many toys
-> but loved to play with elastic as I was trying to insert it. She also
-> loved lap time when I was working on a counted cross stitch project; I
-> don't know how many things have Jenny fur stitched in as part of the
-> design.

RH> That sounds like Louise; she loves rubber bands. She plays with them
RH> and chews them, but I've never seen her actually try to eat one.
RH> She's forever crawling on top of the computer when I'm working.

Crazy critters! Our new church has a big old fluffly cat that has to
get some attention from me every time we're over there. The only name
we know for her is "Church Cat"--hey, it works! She knows who loves to
pet her too. I was also giving our neighbor's dogs some attention last
night.

-> Now they make them stay in school until age 16--shoes may still be a
-> novelty in some parts of the south tho.

RH> The places, where as the joke goes, we po' - too broke to afford the
 RH> extra 'o' and 'r'!

Or "too poor to pay attention" is one I've heard a lot.

-> RH> It ended up elastic - no tapering needed.

-> I'd still, even with an elastic waist, try to fit it a bit more.

RH> Only the front panel was quilted. The rest was tailored more,
RH> although I probably could have done a better job.

OK. I've got my basics set in the sewing room; now to unpack the
machines and get to work!
