Hi Janis,

JK> > Sounds like it. Tey had some fresh produce and a wall of bulk bins
JK> too. > They also had a buffet cart of about a dozen salad ingredients
JK> > dozen hot dishes, all vegetarian. You loaded up plates with what
JK> you > want & had it weighed and paid at the check out, then you could

JK> Yes, this one is very much like the one you mentioned :) I don't
JK> think they do the buffet cart, but they do have deli-type counter
JK> where hot food can be gotten.

This one had no deli; IIRC, it did have a juice bar. We'd usually get to
the store at least every other month, if not more often.

>> still can't believe he's gone :( It is such a shock to lose one's
>> parents. Mom is still going though :)

JK> > My mom is 7 years younger than my dad. She's got lots of health
 JK> > problems too--still going but I wouldn't use the word "strong".

JK> Yes, my mom is not in great shape right now either. I've been trying
JK> to get her to move in with us here - I cook so much, her being here

We've talked about having my mom move in if Dad dies first but not
talked with my siblings about it.

JK> wouldn't even be noticiable food-wise. We can get her to doctors,
JK> etc. no problem.. but she's not anxious to come back to NY and deal
JK> with the cold. She's in Florida now, in an assisted-living place

My older brother retired (from NYS DMV) in September, 2006 and bought a
house in Titusville. He got a 4 bedroom place--and he's single! My in
laws live in Zephyrhills so we've been to Florida several times since
moving here.

JK> that's costing her a fortune.. My 2nd oldest sister started talking
JK> about putting Mom in a nursing home, and I said, no way.. she'll come
JK> here first before I see that :( Granted sometimes people have no
JK> choice, but when Ron and I saw what his parents went through in one,
JK> we both agreed it was not the way to go...

I know; my mom's mother spent her last few years in nursing homes. Not a
fun place!

>> think, oh this will be great for such and such <grin>.. Feeds my habit

JK> > Besides, it's got to age a bit before it can be used. (G)

 JK> Lol true :)

Some needs more aging than others. From time to time, I'll get a piece
and sew it up right away but those are usually for projects like the
baby quilts I did in HI or baby shower gifts.

>> 60" heavy weight denim for jeans .. Made one pair already and I figure

JK> > I've not made jeans yet but may yet. One size is just a bit snug
JK> but > the next size up, I've got to wear a belt to keep them up.

JK> I use a pattern from kwiksew.. I love their patterns <g>. This is the

I've got a McCalls (?) jeans pattern but have worked with Kwiksew
before. They are nice but have to remember that the seam allowance there
is usually 1/4". What's funny is that a while ago, I was making a shirt
for myself and started to use a 1/4 sa instead of 5/8--too much
quilting.

 JK> at_detail.c fm?pid=3193 - A friend I was working with ages ago
JK> pointed me to them.. she also had a pfaff machine, btw <g>.

They are good machines. Found out mine won't be ready for a while
longer; I'm glad I've other machines to use.

>> paying attention <g>. Still looking :)

JK> > Bummer! I'd just as soon go to a store.

JK> Yeah, but if it's too cold, it's nice and cozy doing it online :)

Besides, you can leave the computer and stir the sauce if needs be. (G)
A lot of times when I'm working on a major sewing project, I'll have "no
brainer" meals--ones that don't take a lot of time or attention from my
sewing.

JK> number of > years. Now I'm doing more of mine again & things for
 JK> Robert.

JK> Sure, I can understand that :) Making kids clothes is really such
 JK> fun.

And they go so fast!

JK> Yes, that would be good to brighten it up.. My kitchen can be too
JK> dark, as well. We've got this one big window in the kitchen over the
JK> sink.. it's one of those that looks like it might have been a bay

We've got one standard window to the right of the sink. The sink faces
the living room (on the floor plan, family room but we rearrainged) and
the window is on the outside wall. Poor lighting, none over the sink
itself. The whole design of this place makes litle sense.

JK> window once (that would have been nice, darnit <grin>). Anyway, right

Any chance of putting one in again? You could use it for a mini green
house.

JK> now I've got some chenille drapes I made on the window, just to keep
JK> the cold out.. that window leaks so much cold air all around it :(

Yes, you do need to keep the cold out, those heating bills are bad.

>> Ah.. for my wedding.. I did make my mom's Mother-of-the-Bride dress..
>> She _bought_ my wedding gown (thank goodness <laugh>). For my

JK> > My aunt made my dress, probably cost about $60. or so (1975 prices)
JK> as I > didn't get the bridal satin. Rachel's was much more thanthat
JK> because we > did. She thought my dress was "too 70s"; I told her that
JK> her daughter > may say her dress is too "last century" (she got
 JK> married in 97).

JK> "last century" would be accurate :)

I couldn't resist. (G) She had thought, at one time, of my making just
the attendants dresses but changed her mind when she found the "perfect"
pattern.
