-1- I just finished off the last batch of soup from the last carcass
of the last turkey (a 28 pounder we had for Thanksgiving) when the
Mennonite truck showed up on its annual trip north.

Prices were up just a hair this year (from $2.25 to $2.50 per pound)
and they had sold out all their chickens and their extra large
turkeys the night before in Hay River. So we bought 8 birds in the
22-24 pound range, and I'm good for another year. I discussed with
them the possibility of a side of pork and lots of organ meat, head
meat, feet and hocks for the next trip.

-2- Neekha is living with us Mon through Wed every week while her
dad is away at the mine site. She has become a picky eater but we have
discovered a protein food she does like: chicken Kiev and chicken
Cordon Bleu type things! The frozen prepped ones at the yuppie M&M
store were on sale so we bought three large bags: Chicken with
broccoli and Swiss cheese, chicken Florentine and chicken Cordon
Bleu. She can bake her own without help for meals or snacks and
there are no more nutrition arguments. A good investment at $1.89
each.

-3- The back yard has jack pines and roses so there are lots of
seeds for foraging and we have attracted a resident ptarmigan.
Neekha has named it "Dinner" and feeds it stale bread crumbs and
crushed peanuts. After a week of getting used to her, it will now go
up to her and eat out of her hand. So it is now "pet" status and
safe from the roasting pan despite it's nickname.
