Or not using it, at least. By the way, I found out how to cook
great American-style rice in the cooker - just add 10% less water.
A tiny bit of scorch appears on the bottom of the pot, but just

Not me, I prefer a touch of dissonance now and then. Just a
touch, and only for the benefit of those who appreciate it.

Mmmmm. I could be really insulting here, but let it be pointed out
that (there are some disadvantages to having hidden one's light under
a bushel) you are talking to someone who has a degree from the
greatest, or at least the richest, university in the world, one of
the requirements of which particular degree was a reasonable facility
in sight-translation among Latin, French, and English. Questioning me
on such a simple matter would not be unlike challenging you on your
estimation of the efficiencies of one- versus two-stroke engines,
something that I do not arrogate any particular expertise about.

Anyhow.

1. There is, in good translation, often reliance on paraphrase or
not-quite-exact wording in order to preserve the gist and flow of
a piece of writing;

2. Ac means and. Just because et also does doesn't mean that ac
doesn't as well. Ac is a contraction for atque, which is usually
translated "and," "in addition to," or "together with," depending
on the context. Etymologically speaking, the last, "together with,"
is the most true to the original, but the least true to the context
of the quotation, where "together with" would have to be further
explained as "taken together with as concepts" as opposed to
"boiled together with."

3. If you don't have an alternative translation but just some
vague misgiving about some vocabulary word (which, I must say,
any second-semester high-school Latin student would have learned),
it appears a little insulting to doubt my word on this.

Remember, back in the day, sugar was prized as much as ethanol.
I believe that this stuff was boiled down without fermentation,
hence the welcome of the "sugar of lead" in wine where sweetness
was an important goal. As far as your (?) goes, Pliny does point
out that the stuff should be boiled in leaden rather than bronze
vessels.

Silly and irrelevant! A lead vessel buried in an archaeological
site for any substantial time would have corroded without the
extra step of catering some Roman Methuselah.

Now it's my turn to ask for evidence. I went to German Google and
asked for "south pacific" (as well as "sud pacifische," which turns
out to be a really rare term), and there was some confusion.

I'd rather take on the rugby players than Kiri, and not because
they're cuter but because I'd rather die heroically than after
striking and subsequently being sat on by a lady. Speaking of
the various subjects of this message, I played Nothing Like a
Dame yesterday, and at the rehearsal the day before, the flute
player asked the keyboard player if he had a lead sheet (I am
not kidding)(the answer was no).

Bailey's cherry cafe
cat: booze, trendy, nasty
servings: 1

2 oz Bailey's Coffee Irish Cream
1 oz Captain Morgan spiced rum
1 ds maraschino cherry juice

Rim a martini glass with cinnamon and sugar.
Drizzle cherry juice in the bottom. Shake
liquors with ice. Strain into glass.
