Ärende: Doggy Burps
===================
Hi Dave,

 DD> REPOSTED

RH> So Fido has had a case of "burps" again. We all have to deal with
RH> those burps every now & again.

DD> Actually this one is FIDO's fault. It's Dave's doing. Trying to use a
DD> different BBS with different software before fully learning how to
DD> solo on that system. Bv)=

I've been listening to Steve oan and groan over trying to get an EeePC
set up for Rachel. He finally did, but not quite happy with some of the
programs he put on it. But, it's on the way to her now, and hopefully
we will see our grand kids thru the web cam on Christmas Day. I think
it's set up easily enough that Robert could call us on Skype. (G)

DD> But, Nancy is kindly helping me in e-mail and here - as our schedules
 DD> permit.

I know the feelng. I'm trying to get a dress done for Sarah. Steve is
finishing his last final (on line) but I took a break from sewing. This
week has been busy with finals, a memorial service for a neighbor,
visiting a church family at a funeral home (her father passed away) and
seminary graduation tomorrow for a friend getting his doctorate.

RH> So, do you still have & use that pot? I think we all get those
RH> stubborn streaks every now and then where we're determined not to let
RH> the pot or whatever get the best of us.

DD> It went to Texas with my last live-in girl friend after we got her

RH> And I'm sure you reach for it at least once a week.

DD> Nope. Mindy has been in Baja Oklahoma for 20 years (and two husbands)
DD> or so by now. So, I have lost the urge to reach for that one.

OK, gone long enough (and probably at least a move or two for you since)
that you don't miss it any more. I'm still missing some things we has
to find new homes for when we moved here. Lack of space prohibits
replacing now but we will replace eventually.

DD> Although, if I ever see one like it at the Sally Anne or other Op-Shop
DD> I'll grab it in a Sarasota Second.

I fully understand. There are some things that, having used, you wonder
how you got by without--and you want to own again if you don't have
currently. (clear?) I told Steve today that I'm really enjoying having
the KA mixer so easily accessible on the counter top; I use it a lot.

DD> The vented lid locked in two positions. If you locked it with the
DD> vents open you could tip it over the sink and drain your pasta without
DD> having to use a tennis racket or colander or whatever.

RH> Handy; I've seen pots similar to that but never had the urge to buy
RH> one. I dump my pasta into a strainer (colander) 99% of the time; the
RH> other 1% I'll use a flat hand held widget. That's for small amounts of
 RH> pasta only.

DD> I bought one of those "As Seen On TV" pasta pots - with the strainer
DD> in a lock-on lid. It came with a smaller (8") pot nested inside. I
DD> actually use the smaller pot more than the big guy.

I saw them when we were in HI but didn't pick one up. We would probably
use the smaller pot for just the 2 of us but the lack of storage space
here means I don't get it unless I want to get rid of one of my other
pots (and I'm not going to do that).

DD> And that's the way "community" is supposed to work. Sadly, much of the
DD> world is too taken up with a "Me First, Screw You" attitude.

RH> A lot of the world is, yes, but there are pockets where the idea of
RH> community works as it should.

 DD> And aren't they a pleasant surprise?

RH> It's the norm in a lot of the circles we move in. Still, there are
RH> unexpected surprises--like the discount that Lowe's (the hardware big
RH> box store) gives retired military. Texas steakhouse does too (a
RH> different chain from Texas Roadhouse).

DD> Well, the Lowe's and Steakhouse things are business deals. My place
DD> (Auto Zone) gives a 10% discount to military (retired or active) and
 DD> public safety
DD> personnel (cops, firemen, etc.) All you have to do is ask for it and
 DD> show your ID.

OK, have to keep that in mind if we ever need anything for the car.

DD> I take advantage of senior citizen discounts where offered. Most chain
DD> restaurants and many "locals" offer some form of senior discount.

We're too young yet for most of them.

DD> But, what I was referencing was the person-to-person version of
DD> "community". And how it is sometimes confounding to some folks to see
DD> it in action. Which is why I often perform random acts of kindness.
DD> Just to leave people scratching their heads. Bv)=

We see (and do) a lot of that too. Still, it's nice when big companies
do it in an unexpected way.

DD> Title: Bul Kogi (Korean barbecue)
 DD> Categories: Oriental, Beef, Bbq
 DD> Yield: 4 servings

DD> 5 lb Beef short ribs
 DD> 2 cl Garlic; crushed
 DD> 1/4 c Sesame seed; toasted,
 DD> - crushed
 DD> 1 c Green onions; fine chopped
 DD> 1 ts Pepper
 DD> 1 ts Sesame oil
 DD> 2 c Soy sauce
 DD> 1 c Sugar

That's one of my favorites--and I keep forgetting to pick up sesame oil!
